Good for him for trying once again. I pray that he does the footwork to get clean and sober and also picks up the tools that will help with his depression. I don't envy his genetics.

Lord, have mercy. His poor grandmother Rose must be weeping tears from Heaven.

Kind of bails Rush out, though. :)

"How long do you think the MSM will be able to go in any given story about this without mentioning Rush Limbaugh? I say three lines."

Not long. But, there are lots of people addicted to prescription pain killers. Lots.

That "on my way to a vote" story was worked out between Kennedy and a lawyer long before this incident happened, no doubt. They knew he would get stopped eventually.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I. leaves his home on Capitol Hill, Friday, May 5, 2006 before making an announcement that he will enter rehab for treatment of addiction to prescription pain medication, a decision made after a highly publicized car crash near the Capitol that the congressman said he cannot recall. His green Ford Mustang he crashed early Thursday morning is seen behind him. (AP Photo/Lauren Victoria Burke)

Can a Kennedy BE rehabilitated? I think not.

He bears a terrifying resemblance to Cindy Sheehan in that second pic.

Well, the apple certainly didn't fall far from the tree - now can we just cut down the whole darned orchard!

Michele Malkin has posted a call for Kennedy's resignation from none other than a KOS poster:

Patrick Kennedy's in a lot of pain; I feel sympathy. But if he can't remember even getting into his car, if he was in rehab over Christmas, if there's an allegation he'd been drinking before the accident -- well maybe he needs to resign.

Here's the problem folks: most Americans who aren't partisans truly believe the democrats and The Republicans are "all the same" and that the power-elite takes care of its own.

Democrats can talk about Abramoff and Cunningham and the Republicans' toothless ethics bill, but so long as the People see us as just the "other side of the coin", they have little reason to go to the polls to vote for Dems.

Now we've got Congressman William Jefferson who despite allegations of bribery won't resign, and Patrick Kennedy who announces he's "going to vote" and so dodges a Breathalyzer test, and now will go into rehab rather than resign.

This gives all the justification in the world to independents who will say that the Dems are "just as bad" and that "all of them are corrupt".

The Democratic Party needs to show it's different, that it's not a club of the elite taking care of the elite.

Much as I feel for Congressman Kennedy, it's time for him for his own good and for the good of the Party, to resign with dignity.

The DU thread is all about how bad they feel for him, and wishing him well in rehab. one person even said he/she was in tears watching his 'confession'. They make me sick.

Too bad there's not a rehab for liberalism . . .

LOL! My rehab was getting a job, paying taxes and finding God.

Rehabilitation takes rigorous honesty. I think you are correct - they cannot be rehabilitated.

addiction to prescription pain medication

Ambien and Phenergan are pain medication?

He earlier described them as sleep medication and nausea medication.

Another bullshit Kennedy story. He is really going in for an alcohol detox.

Thanks MSM for asking the tough questions and hounding a politician for the truth < /sarcasm >

Horsecrap, THIS FR thread is sick. Despite Rep Kennedy's politics and family differences with FReepers, instead of casting stones at this man, we should offer prayers in hope that he will beat this problem. I for one pray that Rep Kennedy beats his addiction, but loses re-election.
