If you understood Bi-polar disorder then you would believe he has had a difficult life, along with the depression he fights everyday of his life. Drug Addiction is very common in people whom suffer from Bi-polar disorder. Those of us who have family members understand Patrick's battle. My 16 yr old daughter suffers from OCD, general anexity disorder, depression and school phobia. I completely understate his battle. He doesn't need tearing down, he could use some empathy. I'm not a Kennedy fan, but I do understand this type of mental illness.

Can we agree that someone with that affliction shouldnt be a congressman, and that he should be jailed like everyone else?

Kennedy isn't claiming to be on antidepressants. He said medication for PAIN - pain killers.

But your daughter didn't go to a bar, get plastered, then get behind the wheel, then give you a detailed account of what happened, and then say she couldn't remember what happened.

With that said, how can you give Kennedy a pass? He's deliberately circling the wagons.

He shouldn't be making laws for the little people if he's psychologically impaired. He needs a stress free life of privilege. Oh wait. He needs to quit his job and check into a long term medical care facility.

I worked around and helped manage the behaviors of folks with these types of disorders for many years. A wise Psychiatrist told me that one of the first puzzles to solve in a treatment plan is the "chicken or the egg" question.

Did behaviors and substance abuse come about because of the psychiatric disorders? Or did the psychiatric disorders manifest themselves due to substance abuse?

By the way, I am not implying anything at all with your daughter's condition. I am not without sympathy and empathy for an individual going through these issues. One thing that I do require; The person must entirely throw away self indulgent behavior for me to continue to spend much time sympathizing or empathizing.

We'll see how that works with Patrick Kennedy. There are at least three generations of little else but self indulgent behavior ingrained here.

Also, saying a little prayer for your daughter and your family while I type.

How do we know he HAS bi-polar or any other disorder??

Ambien and Phenergran...are NOT psychiatric drugs...

And don't presume that I don't have any knowledge of those conditions...you don't know me.

I think there ARE people that will use a "mental disorder" as an excuse to get themselves out of trouble..how do YOU know that is not what he is doing?

I am addicted to pain killers. He didn't take a pain killer. Lie.
I took phenegen for gastroenteritis. Lie. Its an antihistamine.
I was asleep at the wheel. Lie.
I dont remember anything. Lie.
Im bipolar. Lie.

Hes a compulsive liar, but thats not new for a member of congress.
