We have had a similar experience. My wife and I adopted my niece. Her natural mother (my sister) was in trouble with drugs and probation violations. Fearing arrest, she ran to Tijuana to have the baby. The baby was born of two American citizens.

The baby was born in a hospital, and then she was brought over the borders without any documentation. My sister was then arrested in the US. Since then, we got full custody and then adoption.

We can’t get a Social Security number and Immigration says she is an “illegal alien.” She is now six. We are going down to Mexico this summer to try to get this straightened out, but I have no hope.

Yes, folks--insanity reigns supreme at the INS! Don't we all feel better knowing that the Mohammed Attas, as well as every Tomas, Ricardo and Geraldo of the world can get into the US with ease, yet government agencies are out there protecting us from little girls?

TankerKC, you are my hero for rescuing this child and being man enough to fight for her! Tell your wife to give you a great big hug from me. And don't let the jerks get you down!
