California Episcopalians will consider electing the world's second homosexual Episcopal bishop this weekend at their convention in San Francisco.
In what's been called the "Saturday showdown" by local newspapers, seven candidates are vying for a spot being vacated after 25 years by Bishop William Swing -- and three are homosexual.
The best-known of the candidates is the Very Rev. Robert V. Taylor, 47, the country's first openly homosexual cathedral dean when he arrived seven years ago at St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle. A native of South Africa, he's a protege of retired Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The other two homosexual candidates are the Rev. Michael Barlowe, the California Diocese's development officer, and the Rev. Bonnie Perry, rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in Chicago. The vote among laity and clergy from 86 Episcopal churches representing 27,000 parishioners in the Bay area starts just before 9 a.m. at Grace Cathedral. The diocese will post vote totals on its new Web site, Episcopalbayarea.org, which was set up just in time to handle an expected deluge of visitors from around the world.

Amazing... they haven't learned with Gene "reach around" Robinson... Or by watching the implosion of the RCC. Heck, why not someone with a penchant for sheep?
It's not really amazing. There's a segment within the EC who WANT the conservatives to leave.
Well, it's working.
Huh? Wishful thinking perhaps?
I know. Frank is an abysmal failure as a leader. He should have at least tried to keep the more radical elements in check (on both sides). He didn't because he's radical himself.
I have been to Grace Cathedral. It's a beautiful building. But the Church is not the building but the people of God. We can pray that the Episcopalians in that diocese will follow the mandates of the Word and not political correctness of bay area society. My bet? They will follow the sheeples and NOT the Word of God. So then there will be two homosexual bishops in the EC.
All the denominations are suffering together for their misdeeds. Success to them is getting the agenda across - it has nothing to do with religion except the agenda is anti-religion. Some groups are farther along - Episcocrats, UCC, Presbyterian, Baptists, Reformed, but the others are close behind them - Lutherans, Baaaabtists (the conservative Baptists), etc.
Americans are extraordinary generous in giving to religion, but they are tired of what the denominations are doing to them. The money should be flowing but it is drying up.
Demographics - most of the attendance and almost all the financial support is from the oldest segment of the church population. In a few years most of the attendance will be evaporated, along with the financial support. The talking heads have been lining up estate giving, but that won't do the job for them.
One Cardinal does not a make for a unanimous "they".
...they have to do some simple things like staying out of politics...
Not gonna happen.
