The problem goes wider than California. Textbook companies publish what the California and Texas education systems demand. All other school districts have to buy what is available.

The "gender neutral" language for little children's readers has been in the works for some time. Activists want to designate gender specific words to be non-PC, and from there it will be just a short jump to "offensive."
