John and Ken have just read an email that was received by a KFI listener from KTTV. Apparently, KTTV has been bombarded with complaints about the racist comments made by newscaster Tony Valdez --- "You took this country. You killed people to take this country for yourselves."
According to the email, Valdez will apologize on his Sunday television show. In Los Angeles, it is at 9am on channel 11 following FOX NEWS SUNDAY.
After posting the number, I have a feeling that many FReepers made complaints. I left a message on Valdez's machine demanding an apology and made another three or four calls to the station.
From wikipedia:
Speaking of New York City, [John] Rocker told Sports Illustrated in January 2000: "It's the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 Train to the ballpark, looking like you're riding through Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing."
He claimed that there was a monument to the Mormon Brigade who were heroes for killing lots of Mexicans. I didn't know that the Mormon Brigade had killed anyone. Can someone help enlighten us?
I remember John Rocker well. They drove him out of baseball.
I used to take on lefties all the time on other boards; nuking their arguments with the facts I found in the FR search engine.
I had to quit because it was so addicting.
Mormons were (are) well known in Mexico and had good relations with the government. There were a few colonies of Mormon settlers who moved there at the behest of church leaders. Pancho Villa respected them sufficiently that when he invaded the US, instead of taking the direct route through the Mormon colonies, he marched around them. All but two of the colonies were forced to close in 1912 but the two remaining colonies still exist. Mr. Valdez is full of it.
Yep, and I predict Tony Baloney Valdez will suffer a mere scratch, if that.
For saying something far worse.
No apology is sufficient. He needs to be fired and black balled.
"I'm sorry if I offended anyone..."
no, no, no ... that's taking way too much responsibility. It's "I'm sorry if anyone was offended!"
Okay. I'm going to call the LDS in Salt Lake and try to raise a little trouble.
La Raza means something I can't say on the forum.
Apology my arse...he should be fired.
I agree, but this is a start that the station is listening.
You said it. That radio host was fired for praising Condoleeza Rice and pronouncing something wrong. Tony Valdez will quickly say he's sorry for possibly offending anyone, even though he called white people murderers. And Cruzie Bustamecha is still the Leutenant Governor even though he called an audience of black people the N word.
I am so sick of the drive-by media's callaracistophobia (fear of being called a racist).
Oh, boy. I just spoke to the public affairs office in L.A. of the LDS. I told them about what he said and sent them the clip. Perhaps Mr. Reconquista Valdez is going to have to make a specific apology to the Mormon church.
Great, Doug. Sounds like he was WAY off-base in his allegation. There's a sizeable Mormon population here, from what I've seen when I go to the LDS Family History Center to do research.
Bravo!
He should lose his gig, IMO.
My 15 year old made a comment about how stupid whoraldo was about illegals. I'm doing my best to raise them correctly!
