Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell won the Republican nomination for governor by edging out Attorney General Jim Petro.
Democrats haven't produced an Ohio governor in 16 years.

I find him potentially Presidential.
Amen.
"I find him potentially Presidential."
From your lips to G-d's ears.
Sounds exactly like Simon v. Riordan in California in 2002: The CA/GOP leadership, appointed by Carl Rove, torpedoed the GOP conservative nominee, narrowly losing the general election. Then, when the Democrat governor ran the state on the rocks, the conservatives organized a recall drive and the GOP refused to back it. When the recall gained a sufficient number of signatures anyway, the RINOs ran Schwarzenegger against an experienced conservative, and told the conservatives to sit down and shut up. Stupidly, the conservatives backed him and the State debt has ballooned by 60%. Now they are virtually shut out of Party politics with Arnold appointing a majority of Democrats to State offices.
Unless conservatives make the GOP feel the pain of retribution, they'll never have a voice again. This is your one chance: get out the footsoldiers and work them like mad. You'll need every one of them.
What's going on here?
Wouldn't you love to see a Blackwell/J.C. Watts ticket in '08? Imagine the liberal heads exploding over that one!
Compared to how I felt over holding my nose and pulling the lever for Taft last goobernatorial (heh) election, i will gladly and with pride pull it for Blackwell/Raga.
He will get trashed in the media because of his affiliation with conservative churches and past investments he made but thats all just political sniping.
I think he has set himself apart from the current crop of Rino's in the state. Almost like he made himself a 3rd party Republican compared to the fece we are currently experiencing.
Petro was a turncoat morderate/liberal posing as a Conservative to get the nomination.
Ken Blackwell is conservative to the core. The REAL deal.
Any conservative who is 'disappointed' is NOT one.......or very ill-informed.
I can tell you that, as a member of the steering committee in my county.
He has stood up against Taft. He is called the ANTI-TAFT.........and has been for a long time. The guys in Columbus may not like him because he's got courage to buck the party, but looking at the results of yesterday's election......WE like him, and WE are the people who count.
The grassroots campaign will be very strong.
"Brother Strickland.............you can RUN, but you can't HIDE!" - quoting our next Governor, the honorable KEN BLACKWELL.
I live in Ohio and I voted for him. It will force some 'liberals' to face their own bigotry in the race for Gov. here.
Hhhhhhmmmmmmmnnnnn
INTEGRITY
Ken is taking a lot of flack. He is definately a renegade. The Columbus Dispatch lobbed some shells at him to derail him. However, they may get behind him. Strickland also has religious credentials, BA and MA from Asbury College, divinity degrees, then PhD in Psychology from UK, so media is confused on who is the "good" guy.
Amen! That's what he's got........Integrity.
But Strickland has to be pro-abortion to be 'successful' at this level of the RAT party, right?
Asbury?? Is he rebelling from his upbringing by being a liberal?
THere was a great background article posted on FR a few weeks ago about Blackwell. I'll try to find it later.
The polls showing Blackwell behind Strickland will dramatically turn-around when Republicans rally around their candidate.
The fact that DeWine is already enjoying a sizable lead in the Senate race, and the strong effort Republicans will make for Congress and state legislature, are other plusses for Blackwell.
PS I wouldn't be too surprised to see Vice President George Allen tap Governor Ken Blackwell to be his running mate in 2012.
The "I'm the REAL pro-lifer" ads by Petro on Christian radio stations were outright lies to buffalo the not-as-well-informed Christians.
That's going to take a while for me to let go.....
Here's the article about Blackwell. Compares him to Reagan. Good read.
