Houston firefighters are standing by for the emergency landing of a of a 50-passenger jet at Bush Intercontinental Airport, an airport spokesman said today.
The Continental Express Embraer 145 took off between 4 and 4:20 p.m., said Rich Fernandez, a spokesman for the Houston Airport System.
``It blew a tire on takeoff and is circling the airport now,'' Fernandez said. ``I do not know what airline this is.''
The Embraer 145 is known as a ``regional jet,'' Fernandez said.
According to firefighters on the ground landing in 6-7 minutes.
Oh yes --- Continental to and out of Bush (IAH).
"Eight miles out" - pilot
I LOVE to be able to fly into REAGAN Airport - but I actually hate to (omg, now I'm sounding like kerry)....it scares the hell out of me going into that airport - I always feel like we're about to land in the Potomac!!! When I lived in Houston and traveled to DC almost monthly I used to love to tell the travel agency Bush Intercontinental to Reagan National....ahhhh - doesn't that sound wonderful!!! And it was just the opposite flying into Bush - there always seems to be plenty of room to hit the runway and not feel like you're going to end up in someone's backyard....
Thank You!
Nor would you want to... :~\
6-7 minutes till landing, according to Fox (information came from emergency personnel on the ground).
I spent many an hour in that airport, did 6 hours once before flying on AF (after getting bumped the night before at LAX).
Hence, read the FR thead for all you need to know. It's all here - links and everything. p> Ain't that a hoot?
Uh, just FYI, both are gas turbine powered aircraft, run on same fuel, and most earlier King Airs were built to a lower safety standard (Part 23 vs. Part 25 for the ERJ-145).
While there is a difference in approach speeds and aircraft weight (the RJ is quite a bit bigger), the basic technique and conclusion ain't too much different, and with luck and God's Will, most probably will come out the same.
IAH is a wonderful airport for plane spotters. They don't harass us and as long as we don't try to go to places we're not allowed, we're seen as welcome visitors.
Slowing - coming in with gear down
I am riveted and praying.
Weather --- skies clear, but clouds moving in --- showers expected in an hour.
Another 30 minutes.. another fly-by ocurring now, 8 miles out.
Thanks don-o
here's to a smooth landing.
Landing will happen in next 5, 6 , 7 to 10 minutes.
Why not fly to the destination?
1. Houston is a superhub for continental, all their expertise is hdqtr'd out of there.
2. Houston is well equipped and ready

I'm flying Continental Express into and out of Cleveland this time.
National is great, you walk 2 minutes, get on the metro and you are downtown in 10 minutes, I love it. I'm gonna try to standby on my airline (I'm a retired airline emp) to come home early, but its pretty full.
prayers up
