No. Because he turned his back on his own lesbian daughter. What kind of father does that? Liar.

"In my opinion, Alan Keyes loves his daughter much more that the Cheney's love Mary. And the details of his family situation were widely misreported." And on what do you base that? Surely you're not saying there is a certain amount of love assigned to each reaction a parent makes to difficult situations.
Because the Keyes clearly cared deeply about their daughter's moral character. They had the courage to speak the truth to her, and to not aid her in her sin. The Cheney's -- all of them -- I respect for their silence. But if this story is true, I do not respect their lack of concern for their daughter's moral character. "I just want you to be happy" are the words of weakness, not love. Lots of bad things can make a person happy. It's like that quote on a Jewish thread that I read the other day. Jews think if it is good, it is beautiful. Aryans think if it is beautiful, it is good. It sort of like that. Keyes thinks if it is good it brings true happiness. Cheney thinks if it makes you happy it is good. I'm with Keyes.

If Republicans in Congress would stop spending money and enforce immigration law, I wouldn't care how many men they slept with.
Wow. Staying on topic isn't your strong suit huh?

Is there something horribly wrong with just calling it like you see it....perhaps, just perhaps, we should be more politically correct. (sigh)

For what its worth, I know other friends of Alan Keyes, too, although I've never met him myself. I have no first hand knowledge of the events with his daughter, so I'll take your word for it.

The Catholic response would be:
the person is at all times to be loved as God loves him/her
the action is to be rejected, and never to be condoned, or fostered.
We are given the task of leading our children to heaven, not to simply accept them, or be their friends. We have a life-long responsibility to assist them in avoiding mortal sin and attaining God's grace.

"I'd imagine many FReepers would not be nearly as accepting as the Cheneys."
Well, the Bible is pretty explicit on the issue. If one is a believeing Jew or Christian, you'd be in a very hard position.
Obviously still love your child, but reject the sin.
The intractable issue seems to be if the kid wants to bring the "partner" home for the holidays.

If we were all the same, wouldnt life be boring!? The problem is that statement has nothing to do with the morality or immorality of homosexuality.
Just like Muslim men that force women to wear head scarves against there will...wouldn't life be boring if we all believed that that was wrong?

Compassion? You mean have sympathy...for the Devil, right?
Why don't you READ:
Jude, Book of (New Testament)
Chapter 1, Verses 5-7
Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord[c] delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own homethese he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.
1 Corinthians, Book of (New Testament)
Chapter 6, Verses 9-11 (NIV)
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Do I really even need to point out that your concept of "compassion" is both abstraction and corruption? Do I need to point out how the New Testament, the very words of Christ, repeatedly warn of hell fire?? DON'T TREAD ON ME!!!

That is the position of anyone who understand the Bible, actually.
Love the sinner. Hate the sin.

Love the sinner. Hate the sin. To that you maybe should add: "Fear for the sinner."

The intractable issue seems to be if the kid wants to bring the "partner" home for the holidays. So the Bible says you should love one sinner, but not two?
