Three years ago on Monday, aboard the Everett-based USS Abraham Lincoln, "The tyrant has fallen and Iraq is free," President Bush declared, standing underneath a banner proclaiming: "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED."
Those two words have lingered uneasily since. A look at Iraq today shows that despite progress toward democracy, billions spent on reconstruction and the best efforts of its own people and an international coalition, the battle for Iraq's future is far from over.

The battle for America's future is far from over. These MSM people have no clue.
Ahhhh...Agendized News absent the facts.
My letter to them.
Dear MSM-CBS kooks,
Those words only sit uneasily because you think they do, because you dont report the news, just distort by report for your own Agenda...
So, since Diplomacy has failed in regard to CBS ever reporting the news fairly, accurately, contextually, with a sense of historical perspective...go FOAD!
Thanks!
In Hoc.
Thanks DNC, I mean CBS. I notice Harry Reid was on the floor of the Senate mocking the president on this. Interesting how it's never long before the MSM will pick up on the Democrats' talking points.
Those who use this speech as a way of slapping Bush in the face also do so to those who served.
To the MSM, the mission is only accomplished when the entire world is a blissful socialist one-state utopia, and not a moment sooner.
How dare the President celebrate the fact that the mission of removing a ruthless, dangerous and hostile dictator was accomplished, when there are still imperfections in Iraq and the world!
Sarcasm
What a bunch of leftist, agenda-driven, evil dorks the MSM is! The "Mission Accomplished" that day was in reference to removing Saddam from power, and President Bush was THANKING the crew of that ship for their hard work, as they'd been gone for 10 months! Granted, it WAS an excellent Photo-Op, but it's not like we were never subjected to Clinton crying at Normady, or a thousand other bogus photo-op things Clinton did and the MSM slobbered all over. Tony Snow will make sure that future ops are more accurately EXPLAINED to the public, I'm sure. ;)
The MSM ignores the fact that the WOT has been and will continue to be made up of "missions." Any of the firefights we've engaged in have been separate "missions" and when we're done kicking @ss, that "mission" is "accomplished."
It ain't that hard to figure out. :)
bump for see BS stupidity
Having witnessed the way the MSM has twisted the meaning of the "Mission Accomplished" banner/speech etc. I find it very easy to understand how Hitler used his media and propaganda to trick a whole nation.
The MSM is truly evil in mind and spirit and intent.
While we all know the truth behind the whole "Mission Accomplished" banner and what it represented (removal of Saddam Hussein from power), the Left and the LSM will continue to lie about what THEY think it means.
See my profile page for several photos from that event.
They cite the speech, but apparently nobody at CBS knows how to read the speech. Everything President Bush said in that speech has come to pass.
Obviously, the media thinks the mission was a stable government in Iraq. For some reason they all think we should be shocked that this was not accomplished in 5 weeks.
Saddam is on trial..what else need be said.
