EDT THE PRESIDENT: In March of 1999, as Slobodan Milosevic unleashed his army and police on the people of Kosovo, General Wesley Clark, NATO's Supreme Commander, was given the first military mission of its kind -- directing the forces of a 19-nation alliance to end a brutal campaign of ethnic cleansing. The stakes were monumental. Almost a million people had been driven from their homes solely because of their ethnic and religious backgrounds. Success would save lives, strengthen NATO, advance the cause of freedom, democracy and unity in Europe. Failure would leave much of the continent awash in a sea of refugees, and end the 20th century on a note of helpless indignation in the face of evil. Wes Clark well understood the perils of the Balkans, for he had already played a vital role in ending the war in Bosnia and beginning the long process of building a stable, multiethnic democracy in that country. He summoned every ounce of his experience and expertise as a strategist, a soldier and a statesman to wage our campaign in Kosovo. He prevailed, miraculously, without the loss of a single combat casualty. At the apex of a long and distinguished military career that goes back to his outstanding performance as a cadet at West Point over 30 years ago, he was assigned a challenge many experts thought was "mission impossible." I preface this by saying "I am NOT a moderate". The Roman expansion I'm referencing including the initial empire, but also the Byzantine Empire which also spread Christianity in the same manner Islam did. I really think that if we can destroy the jihadist Islamo-Fascists, the others will return to a state (like the Russians did) where we can get along. Maybe not be friends, but get along. I personally get uncomfortable with the thought of wanting 1.3 billion people of any stripe dead even if they want me dead. I want to kill their leaders, but not devastate 1/5 of the race.

Some say the more open you're to using force, the less likely you will have to use it. We were attacked numerous times before 9/11 without sufficient retaliation. The lack of action was considered a sign of weakness, a paper tiger, and so we were hit again and again.

Agreed. That was the Reagan lesson. And Clintoon proved that the opposite tack invites more attacks. Always respond, and in this war which President George Bush recognized we HAVE to fight, hit back everywhere we can. I DO draw the line at genocide of an entire religion as much as I may dislike that religion. The Islamo-Fascists, sure. Not the rank and file, unless they are actively supporting them.

In the middle of a war and during the Cold War, were we wrong to be ready in case of an invasion by the Soviets? Hell know! George W. Bush protected us learning how to fly F-102's. Much harder than driving a boat for 4 months.

Ditto. I realized last night this insane "White Guilt" mildset REALLY presses my buttons when a liberal friend of mine started whining about how we took over the country from the Indians. I had to inform him that WE didn't do ANYTHING, and that I refuse to take responsibility for the actions of ancestors.

Re Rush and his discussion of the Illegal Invasion, how about we continue the citizens option of refusing to buy products from companies that are known to hire illegals en masse.

I can easily do without Tyson, Perdue, Gallo and Seaford farms, but they can't do without us. Sure others are hiring illegals, but its a start.

The best way to get someones attention is to hit their wallets.
