Aloha Night Owl!
Sea Survival was training for unfortunate air crews who found themselves in the briny. The instructors taught many valuable lessons.
- Ejection seats (which weren't on any of the A/C I flew in ......save one) are propelled by a powder charge situated beneath your keester.
- An open canopy is a beautiful thing. The view is great....even if there's nothing to see.
- You'll hit the water fast enough to but you 10 feet under....but don't worry , the canopy will pick up the breeze and drag you to the surface in a jiffy. And drag you like a rag doll until you can release your harness. Gives new meaning to body surfing.
- One man rafts are undersized.
- Shark chaser packets attract sharks.
- Seawater desalination tablets produce salt water.
- Emergency rations are inedible. Even the chocolate bar.....but if you toss it into the sea, the sharks will leave.
- During the four hours you realize you should have brought a book.
- Rescue helicopters are beautiful things.......until they are directly over you. Their down wash is a power spray. But it can cure acne.
- Rescue helos in training don't take you back to base......they lie. You're dropped off half a mile from shore to swim in ( they lied again).
- Lastly and most importantly, Never jump out of a good A/C. But they make you do it anyway. All part of the program.
They taught me a lot. PDQ

Excellent and most descriptive recounting of your "lessons". Hoping you never have to use them, but probably glad they were learned, "just in case".
