If you ask me, probably the single worst thing about them coming here is that they utterly ruin neighborhoods by moving 2-4 entire families, often 20 or so people, into a single house. Apparently there's nothing that anyone can do about that.

Yes, there is. Some towns are starting to pass ordinances against this kind of thing. Pressure yours to do the same.

Great to hear! We just moved away from the N.VA (DC) area out a bit. Between a WMD attack on our country, which is imminent, and the concentration of gangs and illegals, we just bolted. N.VA inside the beltway has become a sh%#hole over the last decade.

Unfortunately, in some towns, they go the opposite way. In the city we just moved from, the ordinance states that you can have 1 person for every 100 square feet, i.e., a 1600 sq.ft. house is OK for 16 people.

When the 2700 square foot house across the street from us sold, and turned into a rental, that was our cue to leave a neighborhood and a city that had been steadily deteriorating for the past ten years.

It broke our hearts, because it used to be a beautiful little city, but the crime, the congestion, the quality of life destroyed, left us with no other choice.

We're now in a tiny little town on the Oregon Coast. The weather this past winter was quite challenging, but it's quiet and peaceful here. We still get a lot more rain and a lot less warm sunshine than we did in California, but we're content. We were just getting too darned old to put up with all the craziness in California.

I think there are ordinances in the form of fire codes, just need to enforce them. All buildings should have occupancy limits (or at least should have) just for the safety everyone.
