Actually, I don't find her to be smug, or self-righteous all hard. Blunt, yes. Maybe, even harsh.
Not saying this is the situation in your case. After all, a lot of the perception of a person's demeanor is simply a matter of taste. However, I've noticed that sometimes its a matter of the person presuming the other as self-righteous simply does not want to hear what is being said.
Dr. Laura has her place, and I like her. Other people don't. I like liver, too, and even more people don't like that. But whether her views are right, or not depends, well, on whether they are right are not. More often than not, my opinion is that they are. But not always.
'Course, you're entitled to your opinion,too. And as she is a public figure who invites controversy, it is certainly fair to criticize her views, her supporting arguments, her voice, her demeanor, even her hair spray.
