This article basically says what I've argued with liberals and conservatives alike for years. Liberals don't believe nuclear energy can be anything but evil, conservatives pretend that global warming doesn't exist. Nuclear energy as a means of reducing emissions and fossil fuel use should be a cause that everybody can rally behind, especially with the energy problems we are facing now and the enviornmental problems we are bound to face in the future. Congress should not pointing its fingers at the oil companies, raising CAFE standards, etc. This is what they should be talking about.

I've been saying this as well. We need a "Nuclear Now!" movement. Its a win-win for both sides, in my opinion.

We have one that is being used about 40 miles west of us and another one that is inactive about the same difference east of us. We do not have any problems with that. But, the town south of us which has all of that gas stored has an evacuation route that leads here. I do not know what the problem with Bellfontaine is. I guess that is how it is spelled. A very interesting site.

conservatives pretend that global warming doesn't exist.

Actually, most conservatives simply want actual proof that it exists, and that we are, in fact, responsible for it.

Mount Pinatubo and Mount Saint Helens spewed more polution and greehouse gasses into the air than man has since the beginning of the industrial revolution. But global warming is our fault.

Sunspots are a major contributor to atmospheric warming, and we have been through a major sunspot cycle the last decade or so. But global warming is our fault.

Undersea volcanic activity has raised average ocean temperature about one degree, which impacts atmospheric temperatures. But global warming is our fault.

Scientists say we may still be coming out of the last mini ice-age. But global warming is our fault.

Assuming global warming is true, we probably have about as much effect on global warming as you and I would have trying to warm an olympic sized swimming pool by pissing in it.

Other than that I agree with you. What you take as dismissal of global warming by most conservatives, is actually dismissal of the pseudo-science that has been used to promote it.

conservatives pretend that global warming doesn't exist

Conservatives, such as myself, find it very difficult to believe that people cause global warming (TM). Most press coverage of it always contains something along the lines of:

"A controversial measure by the Bush Administration to not ratify Kyoto Accord to curb the effects of global warming has angered environmentalists....".

When in reality, the senate voted against Kyoto, 95-0, in 1997.

It has been so politicized, and used by socialist groups such as the UN and the MSM to push an agenda, that it is really difficult to believe any of it.

A couple weeks ago I visited a friend of mine at school where he is doing his PhD in avalanche mechanics. He took me through a freezer where lots of Antarctic ice-cores are kept, as his advisor has travelled there a few times with research groups specifically to study global warming. His advisor, who is a liberal, even says that there are too many unknowns to conclude that people are causing climate change.
