PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush attended St. John's Church this morning, as is their custom when spending the weekend at the White House. Last night they attended the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where the President and his "alter ego," comedian Steve Bridges, stole the show.
The best review I found is on USA Today's website. Since I'm not sure how much of their material we can excerpt, I'll just provide a link. The article includes a nearly complete transcript of the President's and Mrs. Bridges routine.

You get those boys from Comedy Central (Stewart, Colbert) away from their studio and put them in a live situation and they are about as funny as Al Gore wearing his strap-on beard.

Yahoo reposted this photo from last week, accompanied by this caption:
President George W. Bush, seen here, and key Republican leaders are pushing for permanent repeal of the US inheritance tax.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice [looking stunning BTW] leaves ABC studios, Sunday, April 30, 2006, in Washington. Iran's offer to let a watchdog agency inspect the country's nuclear facilities is a stalling tactic to avoid U.N. penalties that would further isolate Tehran, she said.

"Bridges got the voice, mannerisms and even the shoulder-shaking laugh of GWB down wonderfully."
Yes, I watched the video (available at msn.com, they really are quite good msn, I hate to admit it, but they are for the hot topics). Bridges was dead on, more Bush than Bush. A wonderful routine, really. The same guy as straight man and comic, and they even kept trading those parts.
I tell you, when W needs material he definately knows who to call. Maybe he could take over producing SNL or something when his term is up.

Tony and rapper Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges pose at a party hosted by People Magazine before the correspondents dinner. It's so good to see Tony this happy.

IMO Colbert was unwatchable. I just saw the replay on CSPAN. I got about two "jokes" into Colbert's act and I turned it off.

From the USA Today review "[Steve Colber] then showed a clip in which he fielded questions by the press corps, only to wind up running from the building chased by veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas."
LOL! Did they really get the old bird to do that?

Also, I had hoped there would be a future airing of it, but I guess not.C-SPAN is unreliable these days when it comes to airing anything with the President.
