Ding-dong, there's a Democrat at your door: The Democratic National Committee says volunteers will go door-to-door in all 50 states on Saturday -- "to share the Democratic Party's bold vision for America and begin a series of conversations with the American people about the upcoming elections."

"Neighbor-to-Neighbor Organizing Day" is part of the DNC's effort to gear up for the 2006 elections.

The nationwide event is intended to build strong Election Day teams for 2006 and beyond -- a "lasting Democratic Party infrastructure."

"Politics is at its best when we work together to create and strengthen our community," said DNC Chairman Howard Dean who will join door-knocking teams in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday.

I had some coffeehouse denizen appear at my door during the last Presidential elections.

Told him to get lost and posted a "No Soliciting" sign at the gate.

When they come to the door explain that you have to "get something" but have plenty of time to talk "since you were fired from the post office."

I would love one of them to show up. I would keep this guy talking as long as humanly possible. If I can take up several hours of his "outreach program" I feel that I've done my neighbor a favor.

Wanna see them run them away?

Invite them in with enthusiasm - telling them that you are so glad they came by - that you are a Jehovah's Witness and instead of going out, you will just witness to them in your home!

Tell them that you will share brochures, and ask if they will take a few extras and hand them out in the neighborhood. :-)
