I can hardly believe these comments.

Notice how stupid these people are: they think if they say these Euro-pandering comments when they're not on U.S. soil, it won't get heard back home. IIRC, Hillary was guilty of something similar a while back, to a German magazine, I think.

And I say this having (sorry in advance, all, having loved Brokeback Mountain, having gone with a friend who raved about it. I didn't want to see it, but I ended up loving it, despite the fact I realize it's propaganda).

Anyway....he is an idiot for having said this. More than that...he has just slapped the face of those who protect his right to make gay movies (think they'd allow that in a Muslim country?) and to say the things he does.

Fortunately, his Humpback movie made a big splash before I had to make a decision about seeing Jarhead.

LOL!

I had read on FR that Jarhead made Marines look like wimps. I had no desire to watch it after that.

As for schmaltz...yeah, Brokeback Mountain was schmaltz. Very emotional and sentimental. I grant you that. :)

What can I say, I'm a woman, and I went with four other women to see it. We all brought our hankies. I didn't expect to need it.... but... when ... Oh never mind, I'll spare you the details. ;)

So you're free to dismiss my opinion of the movie. ;)

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING: You may have lived in Canada too long. Take this test, if you agree with two or more of the statements below, you should return to U.S. soil immediately:

A)I actually enjoy hockey. As a sport it rivals baseball.
B)Curling is too a sport, and a highly under-rated one!
C)"eh" is a good way to puncuatate spoken language.
D)Molsons is actually a better beer than Bud or Miller
E)I wish American money were more colorful
F)Red is an ideal color for law enforcement officers

I just watched Proof the other night. Other than being a complete POS and waste of time, had I known it starred Jake "Fag Cowboy" Gyllenhal, I would definitely not watched it.

I hope his career toilets, and he meets up with a real marine, HELL - I'd like to see him talk that sh!t to an FMS corpsman!

I saw it. My 10 year old grandson who respects the military wants badly to see it.

I refuse to allow it because I think it was a movie that portrayed our Marines in the worse possible light. Jamie Foxx stands out in it but it's pure acting...he's just a tremendous actor and is like a gem in almost anything he's in. But the way that movie portrayed our Marines was a disgrace.

Hollywood at it's worst.

"His OPINION isn't worth the air it was spoken with."

Opinions are like anuses; everyone has one....and most of them, like Gyllenhaal's, stink.

1. His quote is inexcusable.

2. Never saw "Brokeback Mountain." Don't know, don't care.

3. "Jarhead" is insulting to a point, but it's also a movie...therefore w/ a marginal claim on reality, despite the basis on a book by a first-person observer. A certain amount of Hollywood hype should be expected.

4. "Jarhead" is fundamentally an examination of the psychological effects of service and warfare on marines. Comments welcome.

5. The DVD's commentary by the director (a Brit) is openly anti-war, epsecially in the context of OIF. Nevertheless, he spends much time trying particularly hard not to offend anyone, but praise everyone he worked with. I wonder if he might have been even more critical of OIF if his comments had been recorded later, as anti-war sentiment seemingly increased. I suspect he's a pragmatist, stroking everyone he's ever worked with or might work with again.

6. Outtakes on the DVD are even more anti-war than the final film, heightening my suspisions that the director is a pragmatist. If he went too far on his anti-war bent, he would have had low sales in the USA.

7. I like the movie "Jarhead." It's neither totally anti-war nor totally pro-war. It's more of a commentary on individual characters than on countries or institutions (e.g, the USMC). Those characters might not be ideal Marines, but how many are?

8. Fire at will.

I don't go out of my way to see movies made by HollowHeads these days. This is a prime example of why. Thanks for posting it.

GYLLENHAAL may just be expressing remorse that he wasn't there getting poked in the butt like he probably does in hollywood.

Jake Gyllenhaal is a sissy pretty boy. He is not even a great actor. He is overrated. Thank God I did not see Jarhead. Looks like a bad movie. You know there are so many no names out there, who are more talented than him.
