gook thing she wasn't around after WWII (or was she??) - she would have had us declare victory and leave Germany and Japan in shambles.

We have reached the stage where everyone with a laptop thinks they're a journalist. ... It's very frightening. Verses every dried up skank with a pen and a press pass thinks shes a real journalist!

Where is the outrage? No draft. Duh. A lot of folks don't even realize that we are at war.

Actually, as time goes on I think more and more that Bush is very much like Kennedy.
Kennedy cut taxes, escalated the Vietnam war, stared down the Cuban missle crisis, and started the peace corps, sent us to the moon. All things I can see Dubya doing.

People who work at journalism full time ought to be able to do a better job of it than people for whom it is a hobby. But that's not going to happen as long as we "professional" journalists ignore stories we don't like and try to hide our mistakes. We think of ourselves as "gatekeepers." But there is not much future in being a gatekeeper when the walls are down.

We have reached the stage where everyone with a laptop thinks they're a journalist. ... It's very frightening.Methinks Helen doesn't know her history very well. What, exactly, is a journalist? By definition, it would be "one who keeps a journal." What I find frightening is that simple reporting on the facts of an event turned into this exalted profession known as journalism.
Really, we ask no more from a journalist than we do from our children: "Okay, tell me what happened." That's it. It isn't difficult. Simply report the facts. It doesn't require advanced degrees, it simply requires integrity.
Of course, therein lies the rub. Real integrity is in reporting the facts as you see it, and openly admitting to your bias. There is no honor in pretending that one is a completely impartial observer, because that is clearly an impossible task.
So, Helen, what should frighten you is that you are being called to task on your bias by "everyone with a laptop." Be afraid, Helen. Be very afraid.

We have reached the stage where everyone with a laptop thinks they're a journalist. ... It's very frightening. LMAO! Helen, dear, we've reached the stage where many journalists should never have been given a diploma, should have their citizenship stripped because they have no allegiance to this country, and be legally hung until dead.

"Helen Thomas has sharply questioned U.S. presidents for 46 years" No, she has sharply questioned U.S. presidents for 5 years. She was milque toast for 8 years prior to that. When an author gets the first sentence wrong, its not worth reading the rest.

"she said, We have reached the stage where everyone with a laptop thinks they're a journalist. ... It's very frightening."
It's "very frightening" to rabid dinosaurs like Helen because "everyone with a laptop" is a lot more intelligent and competent than the Helen Thomas crowd in journalism. They are seeing their monopoly on information and interpretation shattered and they just can't stand it. Tough cookies, Helen! You suck and you are being displaced.
