I just did canvassing for Blackwell among Republicans this week, again, in a key precinct of a key county (Montgomery).
Out of the people I contacted---who are registered Republicans---I found perhaps 15% anti-Blackwell (didn't bother to see if they were anti-Petro, too), about 25% strong pro-Blackwell, and all the rest, as you might expect, hadn't even thought about the primary, but of those who were voting, I got "good vibes" (Yeah, I'll think about voting for him) from more than 75% of those remaining.
Why is my little mini-experiment suggestive?
1) Remember that, as Jay Cost showed us, OHIO IS REPUBLICAN. We don't need "crossover" or "independent" voters if we just turn out Republicans in the fall!!!
2) There is NO . . . I repeat, NO substantial anti-Taft backlash associated with Blackwell. (Again, don't know about Petro).
3) Ergo, if this is the case, Blackwell WILL get the GOP votes in the fall, and he will win, "period, dot."
I just voted absentee this morning. Voted for Blackwell and against Dewine. Time to turn out the rinos.
My wife wasn't registered since we moved (post-2004) and wasn't going to, but now has decided to file a provisional for Blackwell and Pierce.
Who is running against DeWhine and do they have any chance to win?
2) no.
But Pierce gets my vote anyway, and in the general, I leave U.S. senate blank if DeWine wins.
Blackwell and Pierce
Which precinct were you in?
Maybe the Taft backlash will hurt Ted Strickland (d) more than Blackwell (r).
Afterall, who wants another white guy like Taft.
Just asking because when Blackwell wins the screaming monkeys at DU will be going bonkers yelling voter fraud.
Remember 2006 is their time to finally win and toss the criminals out of office, including Ohio.
It must really suck to be a democrat.
Thanks for the reminder - I need to make a cheat sheet for the judges in case party affiliation isn't on the ballot.
If Blackwell doesn't win the primary, I'll be shocked. And wouldn't it be nice if Pierce actually pulled it off? We can dream!
I am in the precinct around Yankee Trace golf course, although I don't know the exact number.
A childhood friend of mine and her whole family lives in OH and they're so strong demoncRATS that the thought makes me nauseous.
There's no downside to voting against DeRino in the primary and it may send a message.
