ADAILOU, Djibouti, April 28, 2006 — Life in the small African township here is a little brighter now because Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa assisted with improvements to streetlights in the town.

The project included fixing eight broken power poles, replacing electrical cable and providing a diesel generator.

"This project is an investment in your future," said U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Richard Hunt, task force commander, during the dedication of the project April 17. "It is an example of working toward the long-term stability of Djibouti and the Horn of Africa."

"With this project, the U.S. military has once again given us proof that they are really willing to work and participate in our effort of development," said Tadjoura District Commissar Abidirazack Mohamed.

Coalition forces assigned to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa are supporting the global war on terrorism by assisting host nations in the Horn of Africa. Military members here help establish a secure environment through which these nations can provide their residents the stability needed to improve their lives.

"It can surely been seen as one of a thousand sparks of light," Hunt said, "[which] will mean a bright future for this area and throughout Djibouti in concert with similar, additional projects."

The project took three months to complete at a cost of approximately $69,000.

The Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa mission is to conduct operations and training within the combined joint operating area to assist host nations in fostering a secure, stable environment and enabling regional stability.
