Bush Set to Approve Takeover of 9 Military Plants by Dubai
NY Times ^ | April 28, 2006 | JIM RUTENBERG and DAVID E. SANGER

WASHINGTON, April 27 — President Bush is expected on Friday to announce his approval of a deal under which a Dubai-owned company would take control of nine plants in the United States that manufacture parts for American military vehicles and aircraft, say two administration officials familiar with the terms of the deal.

The officials, who were granted anonymity so they could speak freely about something the president had not yet announced, said that the final details had not yet been set and that Mr. Bush might put conditions on the transaction to keep military technology in the United States.

But his action is almost certain to attract scrutiny in Congress, because of the political furor that erupted over the administration's approval of a deal earlier this spring that would have given another Dubai-owned company, Dubai Ports World, leases to operate several American port terminals through its acquisition of a British company, the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company.

Dubai Ports agreed to drop the port deal after it became clear that Republicans were abandoning Mr. Bush and opposing the takeover.

In this case, the plants in question are owned by Doncasters Group Ltd., a British company that is being purchased for $1.2 billion from the Royal Bank of Scotland Group by Dubai International Capital, which is owned by the United Arab Emirate government.

Because the plants make turbine blades for tanks and aircraft, the deal was reviewed by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which sent it on to Mr. Bush himself for a decision, a step used only when the potential security risks or political considerations are particularly acute.

Administration officials alerted Congress that the deal would go through the committee's review process in an effort to head off the kind of public debate that surrounded...

There should be a law prohibiting male Presidents from kissing, hand-holding and other displays of affection with other men, to protect the dignity of the office from the likes of Bush Jr. and Jimmy Carter.

This time for Dubai International Capital to take over the British firm Doncasters, a precision-engineering company that--get this--makes engines for our military aircraft and parts for tanks. Their projects include the Stealth Joint Strike Fighter.

In buying Doncasters, the Arab Islamist country, which also does business with Iran, takes possession of operations in nine U.S. locations and manufactures precision parts for defense contractors such as Boeing, Honeywell, Pratt & Whitney and General Electric.

US to clear Doncasters for Dubai

The US administration will approve this week the $1.2 billion sale of British engineering group Doncasters to Dubai International Capital after initial national security fears, said a report. [...]

The US Committee on Foreign Investments (CFIUS) will conclude its investigation on Thursday, and is in favour of the deal, according to the businessonline website.

CFIUS is part of the executive branch of the US government and makes recommendations to President Bush on whether to block a takeover by a foreign investor which might threaten US national security. When CFIUS concludes its review on April 13, President George Bush will have 15 days to approve the deal. Presidents have rarely gone against a CFIUS recommendation.

Doncasters is involved in the future stealth vertical take-off Joint Strike Fighter, but it is understood not to be involved in the design and manufacturing of classified stealth parts. According to sources, Doncasters’ chairman Alan Bowkett, who owns five per cent equity in the company, thinks these fears are unfounded.

Oh, that's helpful. The chair of the company, who has a financial stake in all of this, "thinks" we shouldn't be worried about the terrorism. So, here's what we have--if the president signs this deal (which he will, if he hasn't already) an Arab Islamist regime, which does business with Iran, does not recognize and boycotts Israel, is a dictatorship, and forbids women to marry non-Muslims, will have in their possession and control the secrets and details of American military vehicles and stealth technology.

And even though the Bush administration will not admit we're at war with Arab Islamists, that doesn't keep us from recognizing the truth of the matter. And please notice how absolutely silent this particular process has been. Now you can see what happens when the MSM and the government have the same agenda--no critique, silence and a facilitation of a deal that is not only bad for this country, but is obviously the antithesis of what the sovereign--the American people--want. We made that clear about the last attempt to hand over sensitive American security interests to the same Arab Islamist regime.

And for Pierce Bush (the son of Neil Bush) and every other pansy out there who insists this attitude is "xenophobic" or "racist" it's just as much so as recognizing the Japanese as the enemy in World War II. But of course Neil Bush's company is in bed with Dubai, but that's only because those boys are well, boys, and not Jewish.

Outrageous.

It's sad that some posters aren't able to see the difference between our Muslim allies (which includes the UAE) and Al Qaeda.

If you believe we can have Muslim allies, then you are the one that has been smoking the funny stuff. Get real.

I disagree. During the port deal debates, several threads were replete with various excerpts of the heads of state of Dubai coming out with all sorts of nutty islamic facist rhetoric such as the extermination of the Jews and Israel. Sorry, these people are unbalanced and should not be trusted.

Oh, we're just idiots for thinking such thoughts.

I just heard a little speech from Bush saying that when his "immigration" plan is in effect the coyotes won't have to smuggle the illegals into the country in the back of 18 wheelers and the illegals won't have to cross the desert to get into the country.

How nice of him. He is going to make the invasion of foreigners much easier.

But we shouldn't be concerned about that either.

He is also going to pursue diplomatic pressure on Iran. Hey, that'll work, right? Just give Iran more time to complete their work. No big deal.

What a guy!

So, here's what we have--if the president signs this deal (which he will, if he hasn't already) an Arab Islamist regime, which does business with Iran,

Doncasters was a British company.

Britain does business with Iran.

The richness of the contrast between this deal and DPW ports couldn't be stronger. A political firestorm over the ports, glad handing over Doncasters.

THE STRUCTURE OF THE DEALS ARE IDENTICAL!!!

Schumer, the self-righteous clown who led the charge against DPW, got campaign donations from an investment firm in Florida that is in the running to get the 9 ports that DPW was forced to put up for sale.

Don't you see how you were set up? Schumer raised his hand, and Duncan Hunter, like a dog after a bone, insulted and trashed a valued partner in the War on Terror. I wonder if he feels like a total chump tonight?

Dubster, you need to choose your battles and your fox hole buddies more wisely.

What is wrong is bush senior's affinity for the New World Order that sonny boy has adopted for his very own. The American people are being shown the door and now we are being sold down the river of no return. The loss of National Sovereignty is a real possibility if we don't get Tom Tancredo installed as our new President. The country may not survive the consequences happening right before our eyes. True Conservatives must unite and speak with a unified voice. The Congress is as surely our mortal enemy as the State Department is The Jewish Nation's. Something is completely out of alignment with National thinking. Common sense has died and anarchy lays wait in the wings because of absolutely no leadership or resolve. The country will not survive this challenge and gross ignorance The gene pool is fatally flawed!

" Takeover of 9 Military Plants by Dubai"

LOL!

Well, when the media lied and said Dubai was going to "take overUS ports" it worked so well they decided to keep on.

Idiots never learn, that's why they keep subscribing to the NYTImes!

Duncan Hunter has been an advocate for American sovereignity for his entire political career.

He didn't need any loudmouthed, ignorant glory hog and self-promoter like Charles Schumer to speak out against President Bush's war on this nation's continuity and attempt to deracinate the American political class in order to appease his campaign contributors.

Where is he tonight?

Hunter apparently thinks the UAE can't be trusted to shuffle paperwork when ships are unloaded, but they can be trusted to supply parts for the Joint Strike Fighter.

Sounds like a great idea!

Put Muslims in charge of our defense.

That'll work!

Wonder what kind of stuff Dubya has been smoking.

What the heck, let's just give 'em an office in the center ring of the Pentagon down in the most classified areas. Perhaps a WH office too.

As long as W's out to prove something, let's just go full tilt. And let's get a congressional Islamic caucus in here to begin lobbying for Sharia law.

I mean, why wait. Let's just get it over with.

Has Bush totally lost his mind? What's he going to do next? March with the illegals, and carry the Mexican flag? IF Americans react to this deal like they did over the ports deal, the outrage from Americans will sink the GOP in 06, and probably in 08! He will have handed the government over to the RATS!! It's just as well. Republicans are too wimpy to run the government. They're traitors and cowards!!
