Until that and the suicide nature of the act was realized, appeasement of the hijackers would be the safest bet. Of course, now, post 9/11, even I (an out of shape 47 year old woman) believe I would brandish my 8 lb laptop and charge.

None of us want any American to find the real depths of their strength and bravery. But if it happened again (and I'm afraid it might), I think the average American will do what they have to do. It's who we are.

Earlier this month, I visted a friend in NJ and he picked me up in Philly.

I just realized tonight that I probably flew over Shanksville or near bouts. That is a scary and somber thought.

If I was in a hijacked situation, would I have been brave as the passengers and crew of United 93? I can't tell you right now because I am not in that situation. But...when courage and determination overcomes fear, imagine what people can do...
