MEXICO CITY Mexican lawmakers issued a declaration of support for immigrant protests planned in the United States on Monday and said they will send a delegation to Los Angeles to show their solidarity. The declaration, issued late Thursday by all the political parties in the lower house of Congress, contrasts with the position of Mexico's Foreign Department, which has said it will discipline any consular officials who take part in the protests.
The delegation of lawmakers will meet with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, it said in a news release from Congress.
The only thing we are looking for is to end this dehumanizing situation and get the recognition of the migrant labor force, Federal Deputy Maria Garcia said. People who go looking for work should not be treated like criminals with the risk of being tried in federal courts.
Activists are urging immigrants across the United States to skip work, avoid spending money and march in the streets to demonstrate their importance to the U.S. economy.
The protest, dubbed A Day Without Immigrants, comes as the U.S. Congress debates immigration bills proposing everything from toughened border security to the legalization of all 11 million undocumented migrants in America.
Activists south of border have called for a boycott of all U.S. businesses on Monday in support of the protests.
Mexicans living in the United States sent back home about $20 billion in remittances last year.
President Vicente Fox has lobbied relentlessly for an immigration reform in the United States. However, his administration has held back from getting involved the immigrant protests, saying it does not want to violate U.S. sovereignty.
I don't like this one bit. The article didn't say anything about the Mexican lawmakers going back afterwards. The last thing we need is Mexican politicians.
Can't their visas be denied. We don't need corrupt Mexican politicians telling us how to run America. If we did, America would be a sewer of poverty just like Mexico.
They can only come if they promise to take some of their countrymen back with them.AWB
And so continues the invasion while Bush and Congress roll out the red carpet.
anyone allowed to immigrate to Mexico as a permanent resident is given a booklet. Rule #1.. Don't meddle in the politics of Mexico.
Solidarity? A May Day strike? My, my ... what a little nest of communists these "immigrants" are turning out to be.
This whole Mexican thing is like a bad dream. What happened to our government? Too busy saving the rest of the world to bother with saving America.
Na. Better plan is to erode it one illegal alien at a time.
So that Mayor MEChA can formally turn the city over to them.
And so continues the invasion while Bush and Congress roll out the red carpet.

This is sickening. What country are we living in? What planet are we on?
We could make room for all these immigrants, if we just empty our prisons out into Mexico.
I like that idea of them taking some of their kin back but wonder if they would also take some of our politicians back with them.
Will these Mexican officials be arriving in newly stolen American cars or parachuting out of drug runner's airplanes?
This is really beyond belief. Foreigners, coming across the US border, to make trouble in our country. To support the BREAKING OF OUR LAWS, to support CRIMINALS IN OUR COUNTRY, and to kiss El Jefe's butt in thanks for giving away America to his friends.
At the border they ought to be turned 180 degrees, and then given a kick.
Millions of foreign nationals illegally on our streets demanding a stake in our country. Agents of foreign governments joining them. Is this not an invasion? Is this not the prime reason the federal government was constituted?
Where is our goverment? - aiding and abetting the invasion in hopes that the invaders will permit them to retain their cushy goverment jobs.
After 230 years, has it come to this? The great experiment dies in a whimper of craven cowardice?
I can't believe the redefining of terms here. Foreign governments coming here to encourage lawbreaking. Translating our national anthem into their language. Trying to get us to pay for services for their countrymen for nothing.
And our government, supposedly elected by us and for us, is agreeing with them, kowtowing to them, and telling us lies.
We must fight to keep Our Republic.
