"William Tayler might have questioned whether that was such a great deal. The House of Saud used the Americans' "iron" to enrich themselves and export the hardest, most unyielding form of Islam to the Balkans and Indonesia and Britain and North America.

" She writes in Italian, of course, but she translates them herself into what she calls "the oddities of Fallaci's English," and the result is a bravura improvised aria, impassioned and somewhat unpredictable. It's full of facts, starting with the fall of Constantinople in 1453, when Mehmet II celebrated with beheading and sodomizing, and some lucky lads found themselves on the receiving end of both."
This guy's prose is pure poetry!

In Bangladesh and Bosnia, it's put indigenous localized Islams out of business and imposed a one-size-fits-all Wahhab-Mart version cooked up by some guy at head office in Riyadh. One way to reverse its gains would be with a kind of antitrust approach designed to restore all the less threatening mom 'n' pop Islams run out of town by the Saudis' Burqa King version of globalization. Narg.

This resurgent Islam -- promoted by a malign alliance between Europe and the Saudis -- is a much better example of globalization than McDonald's. Those who complain that free trade pacts are a globalization scheme should take note that only Communism and Islamism demand world domination. Deocraies and those who practice free enterprise/capitalism are blamed by the Communist for seeking domination just as they blame the conservative Republicans for all the sins they, the left, commit. It is the Big Lie and projection rolled into one.

There's one little throw-away nugget in there that deserves some emphasis:
This resurgent Islam -- promoted by a malign alliance between Europe and the Saudis
Let's not fool ourselves. The term "Eurabia" was first conceived of by the French. Ever since de Gaulle they have been working to ally themselves with the Arabs in a coalition directed against the United States.
France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Russia, and China all consider themselves allies of the Muslim terrorists, as well as the bureaucrats of the European Union. They aren't just weak. They are allied against us, working closely with the Muslims.
Germany too, although I believe they are a bit less committed. But they have close economic ties with the Arab countries and delight in selling them high-tech goods.

I hope this government falls also, so that everone will be able to arm them selves against the Islamic terrorist coming soon to America.
The idea of having to tolerate these terrorist why they kill Jews and Christians, will not be acceptable. But that exactly what this government will insist upon.

In other words, if you threaten to kill people often enough, it will be seen as part of your vibrant cultural tradition -- and, by definition, we're all cool with that. Celebrate diversity, etc. Our tolerant multicultural society is so tolerant and multicultural we'll tolerate your intolerant uniculturalism. Your antipathy to diversity is just another form of diversity for us to celebrate. As I keep saying, liberalism divides the population into "hosts" and "guests." The "hosts" have to walk on eggshells and not exalt or celebrate their culture in any way (else the society would be fascist), while the "guests" are encouraged to engage in the most militant and mystical exaltation of their cultures (else the society is fascist). Which is why in december chr*stmas decorations are banned from public property while the symbols of other religions are put their (else the society would be a "chr*stian theocracy) and why public schools in California have banned the use of the American flag but not the Mexican one.

William Tayler might have questioned whether that was such a great deal. The House of Saud used the Americans' "iron" to enrich themselves and export the hardest, most unyielding form of Islam to the Balkans and Indonesia and Britain and North America. Just as a FR thought experiment, how would the world be different (better or worse) if the oil fields in the Arabian peninsula and (if possible) Iran were destroyed?
To: Pokey78
I believe it was Steyn who came up with the phrase "cultural arrogance" to describe not the perceived and widely publicized American arrogance but the real thing coming from people who calmly demand that their host countries change their laws to accommodate them. It is a bit astonishing to note the alacrity with which those "enlightened" souls in government hasten to do precisely that. While I am most unsympathetic to radical bullies I can certainly see why they make those demands - they work.
