Katrina Report Lambastes White House

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Senate inquiry into the government's Hurricane Katrina failures ripped the Bush administration anew Thursday and urged the scrapping of the nation's disaster response agency. But with a new hurricane season just weeks away, senators conceded that few if any of their proposals could become reality in time.

The bipartisan investigation into one of the worst natural disasters in the nation's history singled out President Bush and the White House as appearing indifferent to the devastation until two days after the storm hit.

It's disappointing that history gets to be re-written by panels and the media.

I am sure that there was absolutely no congressional blame.

Every time I have to listen to Sen. Susan Collins drone on about anything I am more convinced that she is the stupidest Senator, except possibly for fellow RINO Lincoln Chaffee. She is unbearably dim-witted, insipid, and dull.

I don't doubt that there are things to criticize about the WH and FEMA, Homeland Security, etc. but if the bozos in NOLA and LA had had their acts together it would have been much more like the picture in many hurricanes in Florida: serious damage but little loss of life and much better local and state leadership toward recovery.

When RINO morons like Collins help to provide talking points for the DNC, they are not doing the country any good at all.

Fema and the Coast Guard and the Navy and the Red Cross and the National Guard were in position days before the storm hit.

In every place except New Orleans, they were on the ground and in the air before the winds had even died down.

It isn't FEMA's job to do rescue. It is FEMA's job to provide federal backup where needed to state and local agencies doing rescue.

You notice that, while the Senate committee agrees it was all Bush's fault, they haven't a clue what to do about the next storm coming down the pike. Nor should they. Thats why we have governors and thats why governors have National Guard units.

Now appearing indifferent is a crime! He was being a calm leader, expressing that responsible people were going to do their jobs. Surely the President's demeanor wasn't a problem worthy of high placement in the executive summary.

I am certain bush was not indifferent. This was a wort case scenario no onewas prepared for. All the computers told them nw Orleans was an underwater city but no one in the last 40 years has paid any attention to that. as Lousianna politicians have used the Levee money for everything but the levees. As for RINO Senators.they suck.

I have had my fill of this relentless, constant bashing of our President Bush.

From the way this crap comes out on a daily basis, you would thing that he was as much a failure and boob as Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Lyndon Baines Johnson rolled into one person!!

Is there anything in/from Congress that's worth the paper it is written on? I think poll numbers showing Congressional approval ratings of 22% is grossly overstated.

This isn't "self criticism"....this is finger pointing and
blatant political posturing in an election year.
Oh, yes, lots of mistakes were made........mostly by
residents who wouldn't leave, although they were expressly
told to evacuate, and by local "leaders" who didn't act
appropriately once disaster struck, and want to lay the blame elsewhere.

Welcome to FR. So you joined today just to say that. What, are you joking????

p.s. It's not a question of needing self-criticism, it's a question of how RINO idiots play along with DNC talking points to put the overwhelming emphasis on federal issues when the overwhelming failings were, YES INDEED, local and state failings. If officials in NOLA and the State of LA had been competent, honest, and effective then there never would have been a need for some instant federal rescue on a scale that had never been contemplated or expected. That's not to say there aren't plenty of mistakes to criticize on the federal level, only that it's playing the DNC's game to allow the DISHONEST impression that the main responsibility and failings were at the federal level. Not true.

My Blame Tally Sheet:

1. Citizens who did not leave when told 3days in advance.
2. Gov. Blanco
3. Mayor Chocolate Nagin
4. Senator Landrieus WHOLE Family.
5. (this could actually be #1 too). Liberalisms misearable failure.

President Bush declared a federal state of emergency for Louisiana two days before Katrina made landfall. It's an outright lie to charge that the White House was indifferent to the seriousness of the situation.

Agree. If Katrina was his fault, and evidently it was, then it certainly follows that everything about Katrina, before, during and after must have been his fault too. Thank God for Free Republic where we don't have to listen to (well OK, read about) the ridiculous rhetoric. NOT!

But it sure would be nice if we could just deal with real issues. Stupidity is everywhere.
