Like any industrial transformation idea THAT ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE, it requires doggedly determined leadership, an unassailable champion, and boatloads of money.
If you think of the nation's roads as a factory/warehouse floor, and all the vehicles as work-in-process and finished goods moving from origin to interim to final location(s), then we have the software to do it. FedEX and UPS do it today.
It is a logistics mgmt + infrastructure challenge. Doable, but not likely with current government 'leaders'.

Somehow, I don't see a fragile automobile and her occupants capable of surviving being "drop-shipped" several times during its journey across town.

Doable, but not likely with current government 'leaders'.No, not these leaders. What we need is Joe Stalin. Yeah Get a Stalin clone up there in Washington. Of course the economy required to install and support such a system will rapidly disappear under Mr. Stalin but, as with all liberal dream projects, it is the thought that counts, not the results, no matter how inevitible.
