One day, however, somebody who has enough power is going to have a kid get killed minding his own business, and the debate will begin: do we really have to accept 80,000 fatalities per year on our roads??

My suggestion to you: don't drive. Take public transportation.

Eliminating all risk on the highways isn't even on MY list of priorities.

Among traffic fatalities, there are suicides and homicides and a very small number of fatal accidents. Irrational behavior, rather than the inability to control the auto, is at the heart of most fatalities. Many of these injuries would result from some other cause if automobiles were controlled by others. More bar fights, more jumpers, more overdoses.

Plus, I like to drive around the block once in a while just to get a better look at that babe at the bus stop.
