Fall Delights





Summer is over and I won't shed a tear
Now the air is much cooler, finer and clear
Made for breezes that shake things from the trees
That swirl down to the ground almost silently

Bigger than snow flakes and prettier too!
They twist around in the wonderful colors and hues
Daring me to stretch and trap one in mid-air
As I watch and leap from here to there

There sure are a lot of them falling in a bustle!
As others beneath my paws slide, skitter and rustle
I love the sounds they make when I leap and land gracefully
As I move though this noisy and wonderfully colored sea

My Humans watch and smile at my task most daunting
As I add my catch to the piles they've been raking, not flaunting
A smile of my own as I take up my post once more
To watch the pretty things spin down to the damp and grassy floor!
