DAHAB, Egypt -- Monday's deadly terrorist attack here appears to be part of a growing threat to Egypt's regime, one inspired by the same global jihadist ideology at war with the West. The attack, which killed 24 people and injured as many as 100 more, was the third in two years in resort towns of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. At least three of the dead Monday were said to be foreigners, although no nationalities were identified...Yesterday marked the anniversary of Israel's 1982 withdrawal from the Sinai.

These people are f***ing pathetic.
Retired General Salah al-Din Salim, an Egyptian researcher at the Strategic Studies Institute in Cairo, said that it could not be ruled out that the Israeli Mossad was involved in the terror attack in Dahab. As Wretchard says, "I guess it's an argument for calibrating expectations in the Middle East. Maybe the 'small successes' viewed in context are really bigger victories than one thinks.""The Mossad's ability to penetrate the Bedouins in Sinai is known," Salim said in an interview with al-Jazeera.
If every service at every mosque howls hatred, murder and death, muslims reap what they sow.
That's very true. We get ticked off at these people when they kill a Westerner. But it's important to remember that for every Westerner they kill, they kill a thousand of each other.
I honestly think it's genetic. It's so inbred in them after so many centuries they can't help themselves.
Their religion dictates it, their social customs make it acceptable..........I don't know what can be done to make them stop.
I agree. It's horrible though. Even though there is no evidence for it, I hope there comes a day when Muslims decide terrorism against ANYONE is wrong. Since the Civilized world gives in to them often, my hope is small.
Yeah. It's a shame, but progress is all relative. Even though I worry about "democracy" in the Muslim world bringing Islamists to power, one of the longstanding criticisms of the US is our supposedly long history of allying with dictators & tyrants. Kind of ironic that we give the haters what they want, and they still will hate us. Maybe that proves the hate is more than policy differences. That was me just thinking out loud. I always think of the democracy thing as a bad, as it will tend to bring zealots & terrorists into power. Then again, when we're friendly with the govts, the people hate us... Still, I support the President. Forgive me, I have a headache & can't think well. I hope I said what I meant to...
You make your points well, I think.
Yeah, democracy has dangers -- democracy brought us Hitler. But we should be glad that Germans didn't give up on democracy after that -- they got better at it.
Someone said democracy is a terrible system of government -- until you compare it to every other system. I think that was Winston Churchill. I think he's right.
I'd say the culture in the Middle East is badly at fault. And I'm sorry that cultures change slowly, if at all. I guess we should be thankful for small changes that DO happen.
But maybe that is what it will take - the zealots get their shot at power and the results of their leadership (ostracism, poverty, isolation) turns the people against zealotry. It may take generations but they will have to learn from their mistakes -- they aren't learning from our mistakes (believing in royalty) or successes (liberal (in the good sense) government) that brought enlightenment, wealth creation, science, medicine, arts, wellbeing.
Good point.
