President Bush yesterday ordered a temporary suspension of environmental rules for gasoline, which are creating bottlenecks in U.S. gasoline markets, and announced a federal investigation into potential manipulation of gas prices that have topped $3 per gallon. Mr. Bush, responding to high fuel costs that are expected all summer, said oil companies have a responsibility to American motorists and called on Congress to strip away tax breaks the corporations are enjoying amid record profits.

I thought that according to Greenpeace et al. we are not paying enough for gasoline...
That's a good move on President Bush's part. Wonder who convinced him of this?
I don't know, but it would be a wonderful blow to the enviro-wacko lobby if the priced dropped two dollars/gallon due to the removal of environmental restrictions....
So, after reading the article, it looks like it was more of a political move, by the President, to say he is doing something, but in reality, the EPA still has all the authority to do what they want and will only waive the enviro requirments IF they want and IF a state petitions for it.
I thought for a minute we were on to something beneficial.
Too bad the President isn't MANDATING that the LEFT WING org (EPA) do the right thing and stop their taxing of America.
Excellent. See things can be done ... as long as they don't require Congressional approval.

The poll takers.
Can anyone tell me if this suspends "boutique" blends, or is this something else?
Josh Bolton, The EVIL Karl Rove and Tony Snow!
Dammit. Well when people cancel their vacation plans, and put the 5th Wheel in storage, maybe something actually will get done. We don't do anything as it is, but I know others travel during summer. Hotels and restaurants are going to get hit, as will RV parks.
In MSM bowardrooms accross the country the following debate is probably going on "How can we use this to make Bush look like he's opting to hurt the environment, without giving the impression that he's helping with the gas crisis? This will take some creative writing".
Not with a 44 gallon barrel of oil costing $70+
About time. This should have been done a couple of weeks ago when it became clear that ethanol shortages were helping to spike prices for summer reformulations.
"That's a good move on President Bush's part. Wonder who convinced him of this?"
Excuse me for being skeptical but I really don't think Bush did this to help the American people. I'm thinking that somehow this will benefit his buddies in the oil industry more.
I disagree. This actually will drop prices and lower margins for some in the supply chain.
The different blends of gasoline are a complete joke. As I drive from area to area, I can have any number of "blends" trying to get thru my carb.
The cost and difficulty on the refineries is more than the public really understands.
I wish the oil companies would take out a centerfold ad in all the major newspapers and finally explain why gas costs so much.
They also need to attack the lack of new refineries being permitted in over 28 years, and the cost of barrels of oil being set on the daily commodity market activity be traders. Traders who have never paid for the cost of exploration or extraction of a single drop of oil. They are just trading a commodity- like cotton- orange juice- rubber- gold-silver- etc.
Oh Puh-leeeeeeeez
*Rolls eyes*
