CIA — Contempt In Action?
Jewish World Review ^ | 4-26-06 | James Lileks

The firing last week of a CIA official for allegedly disclosing classified information to journalists should mark the beginning of an effort to clean house at an agency that has shown itself of late to be insular, ineffective and insubordinate.

Although the CIA's intelligence failings have been well-documented in congressional reports and by the agency's own inspector general, there have been no consequences. Porter Goss, who left Congress to head the agency in 2005, has made some improvements going forward but has chosen not to make anyone pay for past mistakes or outright transgressions.

Clearly, a culture of contempt for the current occupant of the White House has infected a number of people who work in the agency, some of whom have taken it on themselves to try to undermine the administration by leaking information to the press and unauthorized persons in Democratic circles on Capitol Hill.

If the Justice dept doesn't go after McCarthy and the other co-cabablists and coup-plotters, then it's OPEN SEASON on Bush with NOTHING to hold them back!! I PRAY that does NOT happen.....our country will be a banana republic...without the bananas.

"There has never been even an attempted military coup in our nation's history, as there have been in many other democracies."

Until now. And Commandant Hitlery is in charge of it.

"The current secretary of defense is dismissive, contemptuous and arrogant," retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste said earlier this week. "Many of us have worked for far tougher and more aggressive men, but those leaders understood leadership, the value of teamwork, and that respect is a two-way street."

He knows that's bullshit and says it with a straight face.

Bush issued a more forceful rebuke to critics, saying: "I'm the decider, and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

The editorial is by Linda Chavez, not James Lileks.

I discovered that when I clicked on the link... I was kind of wondering. This didn't seem quite like Lileks' normal fare.

Here's a puzzle: The American Spectator reports that a DNC Staffer said private Democrat Donors are being asked to set up a "Legal Defense Fund" for Mary McCarthy. Fine. But..

*Why is she out there saying (through others) that she is not the source for reporters after signing a confession saying she was?

*If the FBI & Justice aren't furthering the investigation of her and her activities (which I saw reported before), why is a Legal Defense Fund being established for her?

*What would the point of a trial be anyway, if she confessed?

Some big pieces of this puzzle are still missing...
