Doubt it. One can only hope, however.

His visit better be about substance, not symbolism. Otherwise it would merely mean an added burden for those diverted to provide extra security blanket, among other things. Thus, IMHO, he should NOT be appearing in person unless absolutely necessary. Well, we here will just make sure we pass that message along pronto.

FR is in front of the MSM again.
Haven't heard about this on the radio yet. Haven't watched any TV tonight!!!
To: Springman
Oops, just heard a 10 second report on ABC radio!!!
To: GSlob
how about Rummy being over there to personally reasure the new guy we won't be haulin ass on him thus making him a dead man?
ya think that might be important enough for a face to face?
To: Lib-Lickers 2
Absolutely not, at least not yet. After the new guy demonstrates his worth - maybe, depending on what he demonstrates.

Failure to visit the theatre of war would be a mistake, peiod. Top brass and political leaders will always need extra prorection, that's the way it works. The effect on morale would be far worse if the leadership does not visit the theatre of operations and chooses to appear only in videoconferences from home. That is the reality of war. The soldiers don't fight by teleconference and they want and need to see their leaders visit the arena of battle. IF you were secretary of defense, and if you sat in teleconferences all the time you would be called an out of touch coward. Rumsfeld is neither.

After the new guy demonstrates his worth - maybe, depending on what he demonstrates. And who should he depend on for that assessment? The media?
No, it's better he go over himself and assess the man in person.

You don't seem to have a grasp of reality.
A high percentage of the US presence in Iraq think of Rumsfeld as a hero, not just a "boss".
He's not a workplace boss, and they're not workplace bees. Military in wartime a bit difference from your average office.
To: GSlob
Oh, and multimillionaire heir?
LOL..don't I wish.
