I'n not talking about 911, The NumbersUSA has a list of people who were killed by illegals and they delivered that list to the Whitehouse with the implications that Bush was responsible for those deaths.

Do you think Bush is responsible for those deaths.

Ben, none of us are saying that Bush is responsible for 9/11. It is disingenuous to suggest that.

If you are trying to get people suspended by putting words in their mouth, or suspended with "guilt by association", then it won't work.

It's also not constructive to label those who dissent from herd mentality, as Bush haters. We want Bush to succeed and go down in History as one of the greatest..but he needs to change course to do that.

End of rant.. sw

Um. Because Bush is the president NOW and they want the law enforced NOW.

I managed to figure that out by READING THE ARTICLE.

"but he needs to change course"

For those who want to deport, you can forget about Bush doing that.

I suggest that they and you talk to congress because they appropriate the money to enforce the law.

You show me one thing that Bush didn't do that Congress appropriated the money for.

You show me one thing that Bush did that Congress didn't want him to do.

This is a watershed event. Conservatives have even influenced the senate to appropriate money for border enforcement, under veto threat from the executive. All because people are writing and calling our congresscritters. Even though this goes against the stated policy and objective of the white house. Next thing you know, the idea of putting armed military on the Mexican side of the border, and building a wall on the Mexican side of the border; all at the cost of Mexican government will catch on. Naw, American taxpayer servants should foot the bill for Mexican policies. President Bush said so.

You've lost your mind. Did one of these Bush-haters do a mind-meld on you?

Because kristinn was labeled as a "Bush hater", and I have seen much respect from you for kristinn. That is the only reason.

From the article:

Bush has diregard for the security of America
Bush has contempt for the crime victim's family
Bush has as little concern for America as Clinton

You paraphrase as such. I am considered FROBL, because I refuse to be subject to providing papers upon request, and I refuse to penalize employers for not being document specialists. I refuse to consider a wall on American soil. I have no problem with mandating bar codes, RFID, and tattoos for foreign nationals that are from any country that does not participate in the visa waiver program (including Mexico). I favor building a wall on the Mexican side of the border in the event that the Mexican government does not take immediate and effective action to secure their border. I favor diplomatic arm twisting of Mexico, and military backed regime change in the event that Mexico can not come into compliance with visa waiver criteria, and NAFTA/CAFTA regulations. The president is responsible for the execution of legislation. He has failed on border policy. He has done very well on tax relief, following through on judicial nominations (Meyers aside), and prosecuting the military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. DPW and Mexican border policy were miserable abject failures. How do you like me now?

Where is the compassion in "compassionate conservatism?

There is no compassion in filling a man's stomach or his pocketbook by relieving him of his responsibilities in life. Illegal aliens have abandoned their own house in order to be comfortable in ours. By so doing neither can be the master of his own house and both will be enemies in the street. This is our house, the U.S. of A., and it is our responsibility to set the rules in it.

The issue of a guest worker program is separate from the issue of illegal aliens. If illegal aliens take jobs from Americans (and they do) they take even more jobs from foreign nationals who apply by the legal route to work here and wait years for the chance. Illegal aliens steal that chance from them.

They are different groups of people, regardless of their country of origin, and the political issues that concern them are different in their effects and needs. Confusing the two may be lethal to our society, economy and sovereignty.

We already have a guest worker program, which may indeed need to be reformed. But illegal aliens are those who have not applied to be guest workers. There are 11 million of them by some estimates, 20 million by others. The only thing needing reform concerning illegal aliens is to enforce the existing laws respecting their presence and their employment here. Our sovereignty and rule-of-law demand it.

Border security is the number one problem in this debate. The flood of illegal aliens is a major factor in relation to our lack of border security but it is only one factor. There is also a matter of national security in a time of war and in an age when terrorists have set their sights on inflicting mass destruction on our society.

After the issues of border security and millions of illegal foreign nationals on our soil the matter of guest workers is very small in comparison. Until the first two problems are thoroughly and firmly addressed the guest worker issue should not even be discussed.

The President and the Senate need to get that message with unambiguous resolve.

The best methods to control the border have been studied and debated for a long time now. There are many good ideas and proven solutions. What is lacking is only the will to do it. The cost of controlling our borders will be insignificant compared to the price we will pay, both in security and economy, if we do not.

It would be nice to help everyone in the world lift themselves up out of poverty. But we cannot take that responsibility upon ourselves especially if we ignore our own welfare to the point that we are no longer prosperous.

Other nations of the world have an obligation to help their citizens every bit as much as we have to help ours. It is one thing to help other nations prosper it is quite another to relieve them of their own responsibilities. Beyond that it is simply not realistic to think that poverty can be ended around the world. We still have some in this great nation.

We must stop pandering to American employers who criminally employ illegal foreign nationals. Dry up the jobs and illegal foreign nationals will go home. Home where they can do what they must to put their house in order just as we must put ours in order.

Sorry about that. I got in a rush. Found it extremely odd while perusing the thread. kristinn has always been a dedicated and very involved conservative. To say the least!

Thats all well and good but has little to do with the issue.

Those statements were made by the Secure America group and/or Numbers USA. It was the whole point of their march.

I'm not trying to single you or anyone else out, but the heart of the issue is whether an individual agree with these statements.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. You, me, Kristinn, or anyone else.

If I agreed with those statements, I would join their demonstration. If I didn't agree, I wouldn't join the demomstration. You, Kristinn, or anybody would have the same choice.

There are a very large number of people at FR who agree with those statement, so it is not an egregious position.

Consequently, I am bewildered why anyone and everyone on this thread wants to hem and haw and avoid saying where they stand.

the 911 hijackers entered the country legally. I am not sure how stronger border enforcement, penalities on employers, a fence and deportatinos would have stopped them

Numbers USA has been around since the 90s. Their numbers are what many of the earliest "immigration reform" writers and speakers have used. Their behavior, nonetheless, if this article is not pure crap, is awful. Just makes them look like their own bit o' Cindy Sheehan.

a further reminder that this president is little different from his discredited predecessor, Bill Clinton.

This line is garbage.

NO conservative believes this. NONE.

Because if a person does believe it, they are not pro-life, pro-military, pro-marriage, moral people, and they don't care about having conservatives in our courts. They don't care about character or integrity, strength of conviction or decency.

Frankly, I'm really sick of reading and hearing it, because it just plain isn't the truth........no matter HOW wrong the President is about illegal immigration.
