U.S. mayors take aim at guns

U.S. mayors meeting in New York Tuesday called for tougher laws to combat gun violence, saying they will have to lead the way.

The New York Times reports the meeting was organized by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

"It is time for national leadership in the war on gun violence, and if the leadership won't come from Congress or come from the White House, then it has to come from us," Bloomberg said. "When Congress does not take the lead on a major problem that affects the whole nation -- whether it's global warming, welfare, immigration -- it's up to the cities and states to do it. And we have. So now we'll do the same with illegal guns."

Also attending the meeting were Philip A. Amicone of Yonkers; Tom Barrett of Milwaukee; Byron W. Brown of Buffalo; David N. Cicilline of Providence, R.I.; Jerramiah T. Healy of Jersey City; Laura Miller of Dallas; Frank Melton of Jackson, Miss.; Gregory J. Nickels of Seattle; Douglas H. Palmer of Trenton; Eddie A. Perez of Hartford; John F. Street of Philadelphia; Kathy Taylor of Tulsa, Okla.; and Anthony A. Williams of Washington.

There are some Mayors from conservative cities in that group. I wonder how their voters will view the Mayors newfound friends in the gungrabbing crowd?

Boston and New York. Very representative of the US. < /extreme sarcasm>
I also notice there were only two Mayors that were not from the Northeast, and they were from gun grabbing cities in Mississippi and Oklahoma.

In other words the 20,000 gun laws on the books are not working so we need another one. Here's an idea Bloomie, catch a criminal using a gun and give them life in prison. If they shoot someone, give them death.

This is just more of the same old liberal anti-Second Amendment crowd, so oppressive and so worried about their power over the people, they keep trying to find ways to disarm the law-abiding citizens of this country.

Someone should ask these socialist b@stards how long it will be before they come up with laws that criminals will obey???...instead of just trying to disarm law-abiding citizens with Constitutional rights...

And these mayors wonder why there is no population increase in the cities? Because the citizenry isn't allowed to defend itself! Yet we can in the suburbs/exurbs.

Bloomberg and Menino - leaders of a dangerous gang of gun-grabbing scumbags. Do they have spouses?

When I was a teenager, my father gave me some dating advice that really stuck with me. He said, "All normal men like girls with guns. If you find someone who doesn't, run far away."

They want your guns, but they try to hide that fact by saying that they are going after the problem of "gun violence". They continue to use the gun violence phrase to garner public support for their attempt to take your guns.

Taking guns does not stop violence.

Here's a real bad idea: http://www.startribune.com/462/story/392463.html

Now the bad guys will know where to go "shopping" in Minneapolis.

Why can't all these moronic milquetoast mayors be arrested for treason and sedition against the very Constitution they swore to uphold, preserve, protect, and defend?????

Lol....We had something like that here in Florida called "Kicks for guns" in which if you turned in a gun they would give you a pair of sneakers. Turns out the gun savvy crowd was intercepting the little thugs with stolen guns and paying them cash on their way to the shoes. Some kids even went to wal-mart and bought bb guns in order to turn them in for a $100 pair of shoes.

Whatever, I break the laws every day in one way or another (and several others I probably don't even know that exist) but they aren't getting my guns until they run out of ammunition. ;-)
