WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Three U.S. senators plan legislation that will send a stark message to Iraqi politicians: Form a government quickly or risk losing U.S. military support.
Iraqi lawmakers have been in prolonged negotiations since the December 15 parliamentary elections to form a government, drawing criticism from many U.S. politicians for the slow pace.
Sens. Carl Levin, D-Michigan, Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Jack Reed, D-Rhode Island, said Tuesday the legislation they plan to introduce in Congress would place "significant pressure" on politicians in Baghdad.

The lefty cut and run crowd.
Yeah, three towers of jello.
I reject the report requirement, but in a very general sense, I don't mind antiwar Dems getting some cover under an umbrella of unity in a belief in success in Iraq.
The usual crowd demanding something that's already happening. What a bunch of idiots. I guess they don't read the papers (even the NYT carried the news) and their Aides are all asleep.
I just don't think they need to be threatened with military withdrawal to do what they've already been doing even while these Senator Clowns were on vacation.
Hey Collins. Stop pandering to the leties or we are all moving out!
I've got news for these STUPID SENATORS....there is a LOT of legislation that has been sitting there NOT DONE...why?
Because they can't get together and pass it...and these are two political parties...that have been in existence for over 200 YEARS...
There are 3 very different groups of Iraqis, trying to start from SCRATCH to form a government...and these IDIOT SENATORS are threatening them, because they don't have THEIR govt settled in less than TWO YEARS?????
Just who do these people think they are anyway??? They are an embarrassment to this country!!! Just as bad as Kerry and Murtha....damn....you don't do that to these people...they are working things out....and just because they aren't working around AMERICA'S ELECTION CYCLE...doesn't give them the right to set them up for "failure", which is what these IDIOT SENATORS would call it, if their precious DEADLINE isn't met.
Well, in DEADLINE, is the word "dead"...and damn, a lot of these people WILL end up DEAD, just for trying to bring a democratic government to this country...and we need to applaud them...NOT CHASTISE them, like they are little kids!!!
They will not stop until Iraq is in complete disarray, beyond repair so they can blame Bush for it being a "failure".
Heh! Look at this brain trust. I guess we now have three more Sec of State wannabes.
It's really laughable that OUR "bi-partisan" Congress lectures the Iraqi's on the slow pace of the formation of a relatively new concept such as democracy whilst they cannot even function properly here at home.
I'm not convinced they view them charitably as even one would a child. IMO, there is a faint stench of distaste that they must associate with the peoples on the streets of Baghdad...even indirectly. It's tempting to label it bigotry. But, then, they have the same opinion of spending time with the common masses of this nation as well.
One thing is absolutely clear. They feel neither the citizens of Iraq nor the citizens of this country can operate without their instruction. Yet they release this "instruction" through third parties so they don't have to directly deal with the people they fear. And they do fear us. They seek to control us because they fear a free people to which they are directly accountable.
They are cowards.
They are also panderers. They ask that The W.H. do as it already does, and the Iraqi's do as they already are so that they may grab credit for having a staffer re-print past action they shared no part in the success of.
Or, My view: They see it becoming a success and are looking for a no-risk way to insure Bush doesn't get all the credit.
W should veto it.
But, but, it's bi-partisan. Isn't that the definition of goodness, and sweetness and light.
When these jack*** can clean up their own house .. then they might have a leg to stand on
