Breaking the rules to shine a light on truth (Mega-Barf Alert!)
Minneapolis StarTribune (aka The Red Star) ^ | 4/25/06 | Editorial Opinion

On one level, CIA Director Porter Goss' decision to fire Mary O. McCarthy for leaking classified information to reporters may simply reflect necessary agency discipline.

But it also perfectly fits the pattern of this administration: Hide unflattering information that Congress and the public should know, while selectively leaking classified information that fits the White House political agenda.

McCarthy was fired for leaking information to Washington Post reporter Dana Priest about the CIA's system of secret prisons around the world where terrorist suspects are held. For her reporting, Priest won a well-deserved Pulitzer Prize.

After years of reading the Red Star's editorial columns, I always think I have read the worst one ever.

This one comes very close to taking top prize. Un-freaking-believable! Their logic and sense of right wrong is more than a little flawed, I think.

Opinions or comments - anyone?

Should read: For her mastery of stenography, Priest won a well-deserved Pulitzer Prize."

The same logic could be used to say that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg told the truth. Have a seat Ms. McCarthy.

One more illustration, starker than most, of why the press is generally detested.

These leaches will destroy our country, 1 step at a time, and liberal MSM will approve of it to get the sheeple to agree.

This is TREASON. Treat her as such.

Using their logic, Scotter Libby should be given a medal for his ALLEGED Leaking, but is facing charges on something that was investigated for two years, and all they could come up with is, he lied to the investigators! Yes! Un-believable!

The hilarious thing is...if one of Clinton's schemes to capture Bin Laden for trial had succeeded, Bin Laden would have spent time in one of these secret prisons before he could be brought to the United States.

Breaking the rules to shine a light on truth

How about "Breaking the Law to shine a light ..." ?
or "Committing a Felony to shine a light . . . " ?
or "Going to Jail to shine a light . . . " ?
or "Committing Treason to shine a light . . . " ?

Call it what it is and don't sugar coat it. If you aren't sugarcoating the "light on truth", don't sugarcoat the act the leaked the classified information.

Let her be a celebrated, but incarcerated, criminal. Lock her up first, and then exalt her.

So Mary needs to follow a higher law when her conscience dictates such? And she's a heroine for doing so?

Yet the possibility of following a higher law was the main reason for panic about Justice Roberts, Scalia, et al, not to mention John Ashcroft and President Bush. Just how do these liberals justify their hypocrisy in demanding absolute adherence to "settled law", i.e., abortion, and lionizing someone who breaks the law for her perceived "higher duty"?

Only when it is a liberal trying to stick it to bush are they justified. But if it is a conservative trying to show the truth they are jumped on by the media. Case and point is Ms McCarthy getting treeated like a saint and Mr. Libby being treated like the anti-christ.

Only problem is she broke the law to shed the light on a LIE. The "CIA European Prison" story has been prove to be a FRAUD. The EU released a report Friday saying the accusation about the Prisons is completely without ANY foundation in reality. So not only did she leak a lie, she broke the law and did enormous damage to our National Security Intrests by activly aiding Terrorist propaganda. The Commie Star once again demonstrates just how complete without ANY intellectual ability or even basic rationality it's Editiorial Staff is. They simply took the DNC Talking Point and published it as an editiorial. So the question remains, WHY are all the various Democrat mouthpieces, like the Star, rushing to defend a liar, a traitor and a law breaker?
