IIRC, George Stephanopoulos was not officially a Press Secretary. He kind of took over the function from Dee Dee Myers because he loved camera so much. Later, when he had some mishaps, they put him back to his place.
He lasted a very short time. His performance was very amateurish, and he looked (back then) like a snot nosed kid who was trying to wear wire rimmed glasses to look more distinguished.
The liberal MSM started to eat him. Not long after, he was "kicked upstairs" to be Communications Director and "Counselor" to the President.
Hillary was rumored to behind the shake up. Dee Dee was not much of an improvement, and was canned herself after getting one DWI charge for driving wasted out of her mind going the wrong way on a one way street in downtown DC.
