For emotional wallop, there are few rivals to the windswept, grassy field outside of Shanksville, Pa., where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed on Sept. 11, 2001.
But for three years, that field has made do with a makeshift monument while one member of Congress, Rep. Charles H. Taylor (R-N.C.), has blocked a $10 million request to buy the land for a permanent memorial to the 40 passengers and crew members who overpowered hijackers bent on crashing their jet into the Capitol or the White House.

The Congresscritter may be opposing the monument for wrong reasons, but recall please the proposed design and the revised proposed design of this so called monument.

1200 acres does seem excessive.

...has blocked a $10 million request to buy the land...That's a mighty expensive field. Just a guess; but I'd wager that $10/million is a wee bit above market value for land in that area.

1200 acres is absurd. One doesn't have to spend this much money for a memorial.

Charlie Taylor ping.
So where do you stand on the spending of that much Federal money for the United 93 monument, since you're running against Taylor for the nomination?

Yes, they were going to use an islamic crescent in the design.

Family members say they can show why about 1,200 acres are needed I have to side with the lone lawmaker on this one. I've been to lots of monuments and parks that don't require 1,200 acres.

From what I remember part of the memorial had a crescent moon shape to it, in keeping with the Muslim faith.
It was pretty blatant.
To: Looking4Truth
No links but I'm sure some will appear. The original monument was basically a red cresent of forgiveness and the revised design wasn't much better.

Yes, they were going to use an islamic crescent in the design. I'd allow that; providing that someone can show a document that at least ONE of the victims on that flight were Muslim. If the only Muslims on that flight were the hijackers; then there is no way a crescent should be on the monument; unless as displayed as the cause of so much human misery.

(The revised design, after a public outcry, if this isn't it, wasn't much different.)

This memorial was hijacked much as the WTC memorial.
The people who hate America must not be allowed to subvert our culture.
Debra Burlingame fought tirelessly to keep the indoctrination center off the WTC site but it is a never ending battle. I suspect she is weary of fighting for America. Her brother died that day.
How I wish she could know how much her efforts mean to us.

Cripes! I remember that! Thanks for the memory jogger. I'm so tired this evening that I forgot about that BS.
Has this country been infiltrated or what? If something of this nature can be influenced in such a manner, we don't even have to guess about the MSM, govt, universities and such.

Just my 2 cents ...
I'd rather there be no monument at all; rather than erect one that portayed America as a gutless, cowardly appeaser.
I can't speak for those brave people who died that day; but I would wager that they would have agreed with me.
