WASHINGTON (AP) -- The CIA officer fired last week for unauthorized contacts with the media denies allegations that she provided information leading to The Washington Post's award-winning story on secret CIA detention centers, according to a friend speaking on her behalf.
"She was not the source for that story," said Rand Beers, who has talked with his former colleague, Mary McCarthy, a veteran intelligence analyst.

Put her in an orange pantsuit and let a jury decide.
Yep, but as far as the media's concerned, this statement closes this case and it's now time to move on.
He if knows she was NOT the source of the story, then he is obligated to tell us who WAS the source of the story. Common Rand, help out Goss, and pointing the finger and yet another traitor in the CIA.
Unfortunately, it works most of the time for them.
According to Brit Hume, there is a signed confession!!!
LLS
If he did, that would make him a "whistleblower" ....no??
Does that mean that she doesn't qualify for a pension? If so, and she thinks she's innocent, she should take it to court.
If she knows she's not innocent, she should hope that's the worst they do to her. (Although I hope they do worse)
And there has been no change reported in General Franco's condition!
Because he's the leaker.
"She was not the source for that story," said Rand Beers..."
Unless he is the source or he is omniscient, there is no way that Beers knows this.
The libs will be screaming that they waterboarded her next.
Rand Beers and Richard Clarke co-taught a course in Harvard's Kennedy School after leaving GWB's administration. That must mean he is smarter than all of us put together. His guarantee should be good enough for any American! /s
Beers put McCarthy in her position in the WH? Oh, nevermind!
If she wasn't the "whistleblower", then does she have to turn her badge of whistleblowing sainthood bestowed on her over the weekend by the unbiased mainstream media? /s
She admitted that she was the source and is now denying she said it? Typical RAT! To Leavenworth for a long period of memory lessons-say 20 years.
"The administration wasn't matching its deeds to its words in the war on terrorism. They're making us less secure, not more secure," said Beers, who until now has remained largely silent about leaving his National Security Council job as special assistant to the president for combating terrorism. "As an insider, I saw the things that weren't being done. And the longer I sat and watched, the more concerned I became, until I got up and walked out."

Rand Beers teaches a seminar in collaboration with Richard A. Clarke on national security issues at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
Kerrys advisers acknowledged yesterday that Wilson, who has also donated $2,000 to Kerry this year, told them about his allegations against the White House involving his wife before going public with them this summer. But Rand Beers, Kerrys top adviser on foreign affairs, said the campaign has not played a role in coordinating Wilsons charges.
Berger, the former Clinton national security adviser, said one key to Beers success is that he doesnt mind sharing credit.
Worse was to come. In November 1997, Mr. Freeh sent Attorney General Janet Reno a 27-page memo about allegations of illicit fund-raising during the 1996 campaign. Much soft money came into the Clinton-Gore camp from alarming sources, including the Peoples Republic of China. Miss Reno refused Mr. Freehs recommendation that an independent counsel run the case.
Then the president made a mistake. In an offhand remark to the press, he claimed that had the FBI briefed the White House, he would have ensured that there was no undue influence involved. But as Mr. Freeh writes, two FBI agents had briefed Rand Beers, a senior National Security Council staff member. To Mr. Freeh, it was inconceivable that such explosive material would not have reached the president. He writes, Its not in my character to lose my temper. So he vented his anger by helping to draft a press statement that said, in effect, the White House was lying.
Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, who said a Bush aide disclosed that his wife is a CIA operative in retaliation for his criticism of the Iraq war, has worked since May (03) as an unpaid adviser to Senator John F. Kerry, offering foreign policy advice and speechwriting tips to the Democratic presidential candidate from Massachusetts
Beers said Wilson communicates with campaign advisers at least once a week.

Sadly, that seems to work.
"Yep, but as far as the media's concerned, this statement closes this case and it's now time to move on."
You may be right about the media, but the statement itself means nothing. It's just part of an effort by Democratic politicians to quiet things down.
