April 24, 2006 - A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.
The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, categorically denies being the source of the leak, one of McCarthys friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clintons National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beers role as the Clinton NSCs top intelligence expert.

This looks like the article Fox News did on the story. I assumed they were talking about the McCarthy leak.
Yes, isn't it fascinating that the HEAD of John "Vichy" Kerry's campaign foreign policy team in 2004 is "on point" for relaying Mary McCarthy's position to the public.
Sounds to me like (1) Typhoid Mary spent some time in legal consultations, and (2) decided that she can try to stonewall (maybe she's confident that there's no paper or email trail, etc.), and so.... (3) it turns out that one of her closest friends (which I infer from the fact that he is entrusted to relay her position to the media and the public) is a leading Clintonista AND Kerryite..........
The plot sickens.......
I don't think they were talking about Mary..
She confessed after failing a polygraph. That usually ends up in a confession when they know they have been caught lying. Confess and cut a deal!

Of course she did.
She was in the NSC (national security council) staff and Chief of Warning!
About the only clearance she did not have would have been Nuclear!
Good. Now this liar McCarthy, her lying leftist friends, and the lying Democrats in the news media, can all lie together about how innocent she is.
Oh, but where is Clintooone?
Exactly, I saw the Gibson show today and the former CIA guy didn't mince words. She should definitely be in jail waiting for trial.
When these type things happen and our government doesn't come down on these people hard, it just tells others they can get away with it, IMO.
These people have to be made examples of, if they are it will turn a lot of this type behavior around.
Me, too. The Media, DNC, and the left in general are going to be hard pressed to go with the "Lone Gunman Theory", or a rogue agent theory. There has got to be more. Go back to when we first went into Afghanistan, the media had some amazing insight even back then. I recall a story about the B-2 being moved to Europe, but it went to Diego, and another about the CIA not knowing any Pashtun or Urdu and had to hire local "drug runners" as translators..
...and what happened since then?
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
"It is not surprising that Michael Isikoff is helping to circle the wagons in McCarthy's defense. By the end of the week he and others will probably be campaigning for her to get her job back."
Why do we sit back and take this crap? Isikoff needs his leakers, too. I'm campaigning for Isikoff to get indicted.
From the article:
"A counter-terrorism official acknowledged to NEWSWEEK today that in firing McCarthy, the CIA was not necessarily accusing her of being the principal, original, or sole leaker of any particular story. Intelligence officials privately acknowledge that key news stories about secret agency prison and rendition operations have been based, at least in part, upon information available from unclassified sources."
Key words- not neccesarily the PRINCIPLE, ORIGINAL, OR SOLE LEAKER
Sounds like you nailed it..
I still want to understand why she wasn't arrested on the spot, put in cuffs and marched off to jail ???? Is treason no longer a crime?
There are 'ongoing' polyraphs(multiple people) being given... so that would make sense.
"M. McCarthy categorically failed a polygraph..."
Two polygraphs, admitted leaking classified material, and they've got her phone records. She's a real lying American patriot.
For tightly "compartmented" programs like the secret detention centers, the C.I.A.'s computer system automatically limits access to the few officers who have the proper clearance to learn details of the program. The computer keeps an audit trail of which officer has looked at which documents and when they have done it, a record that would aid investigators hunting for a leaker, officials say
NOW....Look at this...
The investigation was launched in January by the CIA's security center. It was directed to look at employees who had been exposed to certain intelligence programs.
They traced the leaker by using the computerized audit trail...of who looked at which documents....hehehe..
