WEB EXCLUSIVE

April 24, 2006 - A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.
The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, categorically denies being the source of the leak, one of McCarthys friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clintons National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beers role as the Clinton NSCs top intelligence expert.

Didn't think of that one.
Isikoff had better watch out! He used a "longtime government official" for his article on the Kurans being flushed down the toilet -- a report that was false and forced a Newsweek retraction. Isikoff did a lot of damage, and perhaps he is now trying to rescue his source, and himself, from future embarrassment.
Hey!
Looks who has David Ensor's phone number. This article from 10/27/05.
The Marriage Canard and Valerie Plame
By Larry Johnson
Today on Wolf Blitzer's show, The Situation Room, correspondent David Ensor brought up the criticism that has been circulated by folks like Cliff May saying that Valerie Plame compromised her cover by marrying a high profile diplomat like Joe Wilson. I called David afterwards and had a pleasant conversation to clarify that this is a red herring. As I told David, I know of several CIA undercover officers who are married to so-called high profile people. The reality is that their identity is not known to the public and could only be made known to the public if they revealed their identity or someone else familiar with them did. One of these people is a friend of mine, happily married, and serving the United States as a spymaster overseas.

Passing info to Rockefeller, Durbin, Wyden and Levin?
Yep.
Good. Looks like we'll just have to empanel a Grand Jury, charge McCarthy with leaking classified information, and put BOTH Dana Priest and Mary McCarthy on the stand.
Whichever one refuses to testify gets cited for contempt and jailed.
And if Priest makes up some silly name, it could be easily checked.
In other words, maybe McCarthy's new denial would in effect kill two treasonous birds with one stone.
One can only hope (the hope being that the Bush justice dept. has enough integrity and smarts to do this investigation correctly.)
Larry Johnson lurks here as well...

I had to work late this evening- missed most of Brit on FOX..did he cover this story? In-depth?
It's very hard for me to believe this isn't getting intense coverage..this is one helluva sotry.
All I want to know about this is when the trial starts.
This is the department Mary McCarthy worked in from 1984-1991.
Lets change the tense of your statement just a little.
"If I was a betting man, I would place my be that Berger talked to get a lighter sentence and none of the rats around him know it until Mary McTraitor was fired."
"Larry Johnson lurks here as well..."
LARRY JOHNSON IS AN IDIOT!!!
AND A LIAR!
If she denied it first doesnt that mean she can admit it twice before she has to deny it again? or do you get to deny it twice after you admit it once?
Failed lie detector test. Confessed.
Now reported she was not the source to the newspaper story.
Sure Mary! We believe you.
Liberals are..
They are acting like this denial is the second coming...
I'm watching that video again .. I know, I'm warped
Dana say she was the one that unearthed the torture memo
I didn't know that
She sure likes to play a devils advocate when speaking
