I have no idea....But I suspect it has something to do with Agribusiness cash.
We busted our butts for him and he has pretty much sold us out. He's also developed a ridiculious sense of arrogance and entitlement. He no longer is seen as "one of us", one of his early strengths.
Now he is a slick Washington putz, just like all the others.
He will not be re-elected, that is a given. (At least not from Kansas) There are already 2 guys gunning for the Republican Sen. nomination, and Dem. Boyda will probably take a turn kicking the carcass. Running for office in Kansas is her hobby. Or maybe Kathleen..who knows?
If he were running this year he would be out. He's probably hoping everyone forgets...
He thinks he should be President, not a Senator from Kansas. And big Agribusiness interests have the money to help him run. They just need a little help on the illegal immigrant issue....
Normally you try to offend voters after the election, not before...
He'll probably make a run in 2008 for the Presidency and collapse by Iowa. He's way outta his league.
Then he'll return to the Senate in time to view all the bridges he's burnt in Kansas.
In 2010 He will retire and become a well paid lobbyist for ADM or Cargill. He will never be heard from again.

I was listening awhile to O'Reilly this morning and he was talking about putting the National Guard on the border, which I have always thought was a good idea. The jurisdiction could be worked out with Border Patrol, I'm sure. (What do you think?) Then we need a double fence at the most vulnerable points of the border, if not the entire length.

Sealing the border has to be the first action. They may need to use the National Guard to do this. Without it nothing else can be accomplished.
Another very important thing all the pandering-politicos can do is quit talking about granting an amnesty. This only encourages more to cross the border to get in on the future benefits of an amnesty.
