The AWB in NJ occured before Clinton's AWB. It is a lot more stringent than the fed version. Magazine capacity more than 15 rounds (including blocked ones) are illegal, the M-1 WWII carbine is illegal, having a folding stock with no weapon in it is illegal, having parts of a large capacity magazine is illegal, having parts for any of the forbidden weapons are illegal, a 15 round mag where a LEO can force in a 16th round and despite the overloaded magazine cannot function in the weapon can constitutes a violation (numerous online vendors refuse to sell 15 round mags to NJ). NJ LEO are instructed to seize any weapon that looks AW like, and let the courts sort it out. Many NJ LEO are not familiar with firearm laws. No matter what the fed/state laws say, in NJ, the police will seize it first and then let the lawyers and judges sort it out. If you inadvertly violate the rules, most of the time the AG gives NJ owners (with no criminal records) two options - face a trial and if found guilty face the maximum fine and prison sentence or plead guilty to a lesser charge with no jail time, but you will lose your gun collection and right to own firearms.

I'm so glad I'm moving out of NJ. CT isn't that great from a gun law perspective, but it is much better than NJ!
