Holy cow.
Good luck to you all. It appears you will need it.
I wish there were some way more we could help.
God's spoeed and His blessings to you all in your hour of need.
Prayers offered.
I had seen an article or two about Maoists being active in Nepal but had no idea that they might be on the verge of taking over. Are they behind the recent unrest or simply taking advantage of that for their own purposes?
The agitating seven-party alliance (SPA) announced fresh nationwide protests on Sunday, vowing to bring a mass of 2 million people in the capital, Kathmandu, on Tuesday.I don't know how many of "2 million people" would be Maoist infiltrators. The politicians are dumb basTURDS and are facilitating the Maoist takeover.
Well yeah, if they're Hindus;)...seriously though, hope all non-Commies make it through OK, and any leftover hippies there get the f*** out before they find out firsthand what happens when the left seizes power!
I will pray for you over this. Once Maoists come to power it will be Pol Pot part deux.
This "protest" wouldn't have been so effective had it not been for the Maoist infiltrators. The "seven party alliance"(of whom 5 are communist parties) is allying with the Maoists.
The party rationale is that once the monarchy is overturned, it is they who are going to rule. But, the Maoists have a different agenda in mind. The Maoists think that they are using the parties for the Mao-style takeover. And Maoists are armed. The parties are not. The parties are losers at the end because the Maoists don't want multiparty democracy -- they want one party Communist utopia under Chairman Mao's banner.
Number three may be wishful thinking.
I will, and saddened to hear this news. This whole 'democracy protest' has had a very Tet feel about it, from the start.
"3. Army and Maoists clash. Both are severely destroyed... politicians take over and declare Nepal a Democratic Republic."
3. has got to be the best alternative; but man, must be only about a 5% chance this could happen.
Yes, will pray for your family; an alarming situation.
Prayer bump
Kathmandu, Apr 24: Communist rebels attacked security bases and government buildings overnight in Nepal's mountainous north-central region, officials said today. You, your family and town are in my prayers.Details were sketchy about the overnight attack at Chautara, about 120 kilometres northeast of Kathmandu, but officials reached at neighbouring districts confirmed the attack.
The attackers knocked down the telecommunication tower around midnight cutting off all communications. The attack began late last night but fighting continued until early today....

Isn't it the way Communists took over in post-WWII Romania, Bulgaria, and Czech Republic? "Coalition" governments first or as the slogan to overthrow the monarchy, then the Communists took over.
Ping to lizol and Lukasz! Could you ping anyone who knew about the Soviet-backed Communist coups in post-WWII democratic Central/Eastern European countries?
Sorry to hear about this. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and you. All the best.

Remember Cambodia......
Wouldn't China be a far more likely invader?
