Two Community High students accused of bringing a gun to the school and making threats Wednesday appeared in Juvenile Court before Judge Charles Rich on Thursday morning. The boys, ages 15 and 13, are each charged with possession of a gun on school property, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a weapon, sources said. They are being held in detention before another court appearance Monday. The 13-year-old brought a derringer, allegedly owned by his parents, to the school and showed it to the 15-year-old, sources said.

Both boys, who are not brothers, started showing the gun to other students, according to several sources. One of the students told Principal Robert Ralston the intent had been to use the gun against a teacher, School Superintendent Ed Gray said. "They made some threats against one of the teachers and another student," Parker said of the suspects. The boys claimed the gun had two bullets, one for the teacher and one for the student, sources said.

The threats were contained within "remarks made to other people," Parker said. No actual action or confrontations occurred against any individual, school system officials and investigators emphasized, and the school is safe. "Information about it got out late in the day and Ralston and School Resource Officer Tracey Harvey worked together and were able to recover the gun," Parker said. Ralston and Harvey went to one of the boys' homes and saw the gun, according to Parker.

Several officials involved in the investigation praised the actions of Ralston and Harvey, pointing out they may have prevented a major incident from occurring. Ironically, Thursday was the seventh anniversary of the 1999 Columbine school shooting near Denver.

Ralston is the same principal who was accused of bruising a boy at this same school via paddling. Don't know what became of that case -- it would be nice to know. Wonder if it was the same kid? You have to know this community to understand why this stuff happens at this school. Ralston is one brave man.

When I was 15, the guy flashing the gun at schol would have been outmanned and outgunned by his peers in the FFA.

Problem solved.

Bullets aren't dangerous unless they are loaded into cartridges. Did they have cartridges or just bullets?

I love modern journalism.

Please read as "school". Sheesh.

I am surprised the spelling police didn't get a hold of you. It's obvious as to what you meant.
