Democrats Suggest Double Standard on Leaks White House Aides' Actions Are Cited
By Walter Pincus Washington Post Staff Writer Monday, April 24, 2006; Page A02
Key Democratic legislators yesterday joined Republicans in saying they do not condone the alleged leaking of classified information that led to last week's firing of a veteran CIA officer. But they questioned whether a double standard exists that lets the White House give reporters secretly declassified information for political purposes.
"I don't know this woman and I do not condone leaks of classified information," said Rep. Jane Harman (Calif.), ranking Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, referring to the firing of Mary McCarthy.

Walter Pincus is the butt boy for more leftists than I can count.
Dana Priest needs to be fired.
In time of war such an act could result in a charge of treason and subsequent execution. Kudos to Goss for rolling up this fifth column of unpatriotic, ivy league, Clintonian syncophants.
I hope the Dim-o-craps continue to make a big time of Porter Goss's investigation and roll up. It will result in exposing them for the slimy, unpatriotic shuttlecocks they really are. They can trump up investigations for DeLay, and Libby, forcing the resignation of effective Republicans who are good men, but cannot take a smidgeon of their own medicine.
What a bunch of loser/whiners!
It will be interesting to watch how long before Dana Priest's byline appears again in the Post. You would think it would have its Pulitzer Prize winner on the front page every day, not shabby old Walter Pincus.
Whew ! Thank God John Kerry outted Fulton Armstrong.
Outting, you see, is not the same as leaking.
Rats out.
Repubs leak.
I'm amazed that DC Press and WP makes no mention of the fact her hubby is a commie .. not just a leftie .. not just a anti bush/anti war protester ... but a full fledge red commie
BTW .. has there been any comment from Dana lately about all this?
White House Trains Efforts on Media Leaks
"We do not want to inadvertently threaten human life or legitimately harm national security in our reporting," he said. "But it's important . . . in our constitutional system that these final decisions be made by newspaper editors and not the government."

I don't know....I have spent so much time on the Sunday thread...this I may have missed it.
Hopefully if she did...it will be on the "Mary Thread"...
Corrupt to the core.
Because Bush opposes Democratic partisan governance and because of his illegitimate status in the eyes of many Democrats, he lacks the statutory authority normally accorded to legitimate Democratic presidents. Bush therefore lacks the authority to declassify any intelligence; that power rests solely with petty bureaucrats and Democratic partisans. Bush probably lacks even the eligibility for a security clearance; he must get his intelligence information through personal collection and reading newspapers.
This opinion approved by Howard Dean, the True voice of the American people.
In fact, a Post editiorial last week actually PRAISED (half-heartedly) the fact that Bush had released/declassified the material..they even made the statement that Wilson had erred in some of his assertions! I almost fell off my chair when I read it!
A president HAS the right to declassify and release info...she did not! The Republicans better start hammering this home NOW!
Well then The Post got it wrong. How can it be a leak by the President if the President has the legal right to declassify it?
They don't like that term/word .. so they will make up their own
it's an old old game they play
Dana needs to share a jail cell with Mary. Temporarily. One to get life imprisonment, the other should hang.
Yeah, to the Lefties reading that in horror. I'm serious about re-institution of the gallows and giving traitors their proper due.
Let me be very clear with them.
Outing National security secrets because you lost the 2000 election doesn't make you patriotic. It makes you a Traitor to the laws, Constitution and Peoples of this Nation. This will not change. The attitudes of the Majority of citizens on this will not change. You cannot re-define Patriotism and Treason. It will not stick.

Kind of funny the timing of that very out of character editorial, nicht wahr?
A sure fire sign they were in panic.
Evidently WAPO feels the heat as well, since they contradict themselves so blatantly right at the start side by side.

The editor let that one slip by? LOL
I guess we now know why WAPO defended the admin the other week now. They knew this was coming.
You're absolutely right...they totally mischaractertized it as a leak...but the point is, they uncharacteristically praised Bush for providing the information..unlike the Times who did the opposite.
No matter how thye paint this...Bush has the right as president to release whatever info he wants to ...Miss Mary commits a crime when SHE, an unelected CIA manager who KNEW it was illegal to do so, "leaked" classified OPERATIONAL info.
Big time arrests must be coming down the pike for the NSA leakers. I was really hoping the perps would have been frogmarched by now.
