I hope all these 3rd-party voters here don't pay attention to this crap...It DOES matter, and for many reasons. It's idiotic to think it's irrelevant.

Sorry.

I refuse to give Scarborough the dignity of classifying himself as "one of us". He is no conservative. He's a Tucker sell out...minus the bowtie.

I've made my feelings about the Party known. I'm made it known I am severely disinclined to do anything to help them this fall. A few exceptions like Blackwell, Steele and Erlich? Sure, but they are the exception.

But Tucker encouraging me to let the majority fall? Well, when a RINO as he IS and a Conservative in his mind only seeks to tell me I should follow through and let the Majority sink, well, that has more influence than the Party boosters, some on this board, that seem to think I should always vote Rep..even if I'm not a Rep. Tends to make me want to re-consider my stance. Just to spite what the RINO wants.

Actually, let me see if I can reason the RINO's out. If the GOP Majority grows enough they'll ultimately lose power. The only question is how many it will take to make it happen. 60 Rep Senators? 65? 70? Once that happens they are out of power, as the Dems have been out of power. I'm aware of this.

Unfortunately I just don't see Reps making big gains in the fall, Liddy Dole's horrendous turn as Chair NOT helping AT ALL, which is why conservatives have been thinking to punish them by making the RINO's obsolete with minority status. After all, the Dems won't need them anymore if they are the majority. And maybe they'd become 'enlightened" and realize they can't screw conservatives without facing our "discipline". Since the party itself exercises none.

I'm becoming of a black/white mentality on this. Either everyone gets their butts in gear and makes a filibuster proof Majority happen, say, 65 seats in a stunning "upset", or let it fall. This inbetween stat with RINO's calling the shots is NOT acceptable. Except I don't see the committment of conservatives to making that Majority happen, not when they are backbiting a winnable seat in Florida.

For me, it's not even a matter of Greater Demon or Lesser Demon anymore.

Neither party represents what I or my family stand for.

Why should I vote for either of them???

What's Joe talking about? The Dems control the Senate, thanks to the RINOs there who have so much in common with them. And the House couldn't pass drilling in ANWAR because 21 REPUBLICANS blocked consideration of the bill. I recall Sensenbrenner (WI), Chas. Bass (NH), Jeb Bradley (NH), Sherwood Boehlert (NY), Nancy Johnson (NY) being so proud of their anti-oil vote. These states should pay $5/gal. for gas, or better, get none at all.
Incidentally, perhaps someone can explain why Fox reported that gas in Dallas is $3.09/gal and in St. Paul, MN it's $2.09. That's the thanks Texas drivers get for us shipping our oil all over the country. If our pretty governor, Rick Perry, can get out of the beauty shop maybe he could investigate a little price gouging in our late great state. Texans are getting royally screwed.

Could Nancy Pelosi's Congress be worse?

Uh. Yeah.

I've been arguing for more than a decade that if "fiscal responsibility" is your overriding goal the best bet is a Democratic President and Republican control of at least one house of Congress - for example under Clinton this arrangement was more fiscally responsible than the last 6 years of a Republican Congress and a Republican President.

Of course for many posters here other factors outweigh fiscal responsibility at the most important policy goal, and I'm not trying to argue anyone out of such a position.

But if we intend (for example) to conduct an extensive preemptive military effort in the WOT we either have to get our fiscal house in order or starve necessary domestic spending to get the job done - the rest of the world is not going to finance an ever increasing US defect indefinitely.

"Could Nancy Pelosi's Congress be worse?"

Anyone stupid enough to ask that question cannot be taken seriously.

There is no doubt the Republican congress is a major disappointment, but it is, in large part, because of the jello-spined RINOs who prevent the conservatives from holding the line.

Sadly, GWB has been a large contributor to the spending problem. But, go back and listen to his campaign promises of 2000. He promised all of this socialist crap. I was appalled at the time, and hoped he was spreading the usual "pandering politican" BS to suck in the "moderates". But GWB is a man of his word, so here we are.

Unfortunately, the problem is, we conservatives are a minority, and are stuck with the likes of Lincoln Chafee, etc., but anyone who thinks a RAT congress would be spending less is an idiot.

I care as bad as the Republicans are acting they are not selling out our Country. They are not leaking secrets and underminding our troops. They are not siding with our enemies. We can fix the Republican party in the primaries, we can not fix the liberals.

Excellent post.

I fully agree with Joe Scarborough. Moreover, I am glad that he is making this statement. Two observations:

1. I cannot understand the obsession of the Republicans with their own self-destruction. Consider the poll taken on this site. Only 41% of FReepers will vote republican this election cycle. Compare that to, say, the last election for GWB. I bet it was better than 99%. My point is that the republican losses are due to a loss of the base. How difficult is this to understand??? Scarborough is explaining how they are the instruments of their own demise.

2. Sitting out this election or voting for a conservative 3rd party (e.g. the Conservative Party) makes sense. As many have pointed out, it might be a tactical mistake, but I think it is strategically correct. Send the Republicans a message. Maybe after an election cycle we will get better ones that we can vote for.

Joe Scarborough together with Pat Buchanan are the worst conservative commentators in the media, they simply hate President Bush and the Republican Party and all their analysis and predictions were wrong.

Seems as if the talk show hosts are spending more time whining about republicans and getting their sheeple incensed over republicans rather than focusing on democrats. They have become part of the problem, not part of the solution.

He's got a point. But when the parties change places, things get unstuck and the country lurches in dangerous directions. If the country slides to the left, it could cause a lot of damage. Some people think you can contain and control the change, but that's not always possible.

The author is working under a false premise. Conservatives don't care about having a small, constitutional, fiscally responsible government. They care about guns, gays, and abortions. And if huge deficits, trade gaps, and record spending is what it takes, so be it.
