Evacuation Day" and declared a holiday. No one has a clue what that means we all know it is St. Paddys day.Evacuation Day refers to the day British forces left Boston for good in 1776 and sailed to Nova Scotia.

Yes, they're a dime a dozen in the DC area. Mosques everywhere you look, and little girls running around the suburban neighborhoods with scarves on their heads. Everyone is scrupulously polite to them. I refrain from comment.

Having come out of a background in geology, I'm always convinced that no question can be solved without looking at a map...
You said something identical said by a geology/geography lecturer I had at college. I always observe maps well too, thinking about geopolitical issues, rembering those words from my lecturer.

Your question would just as well apply to Jews, Episcopalians, Methodist, Presbyterians.....and on and on the list goes. Not one Jewish or Christian faith can justify abortion and yet some of these are publicly supporting abortion such as the ECUSA, UMC and Presbyterian USA all funds pro-abortion rallies.
The fact many in the pew reject the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church is a crying shame and a point of embarrassment to the weak leadership the Church holds in Mass and elsewhere. But you tell me which is more to be ashamed of their stand? The RCC or the Episcopalian? RCC or UMC? I could go on all day with the list of Jewish and Christian Sects that are an embarrassment to the real believers of these Doctrines. Yet you only selected the Catholics, what is one to think of this?
Try reading an article in the Nov 2005 American Spectator by Graham Walker titled "When Evangelical Colleges turn Liberal". It just may open your eyes as to what is happening even in these circles.

There are a few Democrat Catholics at my Church. I don't mean to be confrontational with them because we are a close knit congregation but I have asked them how they reconcile within themselves the fact that the Dims are pro-abortion and the Catholic Church is decidedly Pro-Life. I have never gotten an answer that is anything but a dodge. They will usually counter with how I can support the death penalty. For me the answer is simple. That John Evander Couey monster buried that precious child of God Jessica Lunsford alive. What heinous crime against society has an unborn baby committed? Again, no answer or a dodge. This is one subject, which for me is black and white.

See my post #53. I can support the death penalty (though the Church does not) but how on earth could I ever support the destruction of this, it's unthinkable:

" I can support the death penalty (though the Church does not)"
If you are referring to the RCC you are incorrect about this. The Doctrine of the Church does not forbid the death penalty but it does not forbid someone from opposing it either. Most people have come to the conclusion the RCC forbids the death penalty because they have heard Pope John Paul II say "HE" objected to it. This he did after dragging his feet for some time on the matter and even when he did come out with a statement on the matter it was not covered by his privilege of infallibility (a benefit that requires highly specific criteria, which he never claimed at any point in his reign)
Priest Bishops and Popes all can have a personal opinion and judgment in a host of issue but that does not automatically mean they are speaking a matter of doctrine. You can really tell something of the character of the man when he tells you the difference on any one position he takes. The vain can not admit there is a difference, the better half have no fear telling you their opinion is not binding on the faithful in the pews.
This is why a Priest can say the death penalty is wrong but CAN NOT tell you abortion is okay. One he is expressing a personal discernment while the other is a doctrine of the Church with a 2000 plus pedigree.

There is no way on earth I will ever support the murder of unborn babies (I hate the term "fetus"), but when it comes to the likes of John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, John Couey and the rest, I have no problem with ending their reign of terror on innocent people and hastening their Judgement day.

ah. Never knew that. As I said, it is only officially evacuation day. Hardly anyone knows why st patricks day is a holiday, just that it is.
To: Popman
Good guess.
When Joseph Smith was killed, there was a power struggle within the church. Brigham Young looked to be the likely sucessor. Sidney Rigdon left. Bickerton followed.
Bickerton eventually left Rigdon and formed what is now known as teh Bickertonites.
