I have frequently quoted segments of Scott McClellan's press briefings in this space. Mr. McClellan is a very kind and warm human being who did an extremely difficult job with grace and dignity. I will not pile on with the often genuinely idiotic comments posted on FreeRepublic about Mr. McClellan and others in this administration. Instead, I thank him for his service to the country and the President we both admire so much. I wish him only the very best as this chapter in his life comes to a close.

Regarding the truly churlish behavior exhibited with increasing frequency on FR, all I can say is this...I can never be on the Leftist team, but as to the examples of hate we see here from the "good" team, I'll keep this in mind:

As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. [Proverbs 23:7].

And this...

Forsake not an old friend; for the new is not comparable to him. [Ecclesiasticus (ch. IX, v. 10)]

Well said, and I'm sad to admit it's one of the reasons I switched from posting to lurking. Life is too short, etc. Great article, and the Barney pictures put a big smile on my face! Many thanks.

That was worth repeating.

Wolfstar - lovely dose today! I especially loved the requiem for Spotty - and for our President's tenure, one we will surely hate to see end. But most especially, the lovely photo of Laura looking up at Anne Frank. Just a beautiful and poignant shot. Thanks!

Hello-- THANKS for the cute article about the Pres.' bike ride! Do you suppose he rode through some of those puddles on purpose, to splash anyone close to him?

How are you? I've lurked a bit in the last weeks and months but haven't posted. I'll have time for the next few days as dear daughter is "quarantined" because her symptoms are highly suspicious for . . . mumps! We won't get the blood tests back till Tuesday probably . . .

The following quotes from the opening article give us some precious insights into our beloved president's heart, mind and soul -- the firt quote is particularly telling:

"I STILL RIDE THE MOUNTAIN BIKE PRIMARILY TO HELP SETTLE THE SOUL AND TO BURN OFF THE EXCESS ENERGY ONE GETS WHEN YOU'RE LIVING LIVE TO ITS FULLEST," Bush told an Associated Press reporter who accompanied him on the ride."

"We're able to enjoy the beauty without really disrupting the pristine nature of the place," the mud-splattered president said after the 65-minute ride. "It's a classic way for mankind to enjoy God's gift. Plus, we get some exercise."

"Generally when I ride it is the one time when I feel alone, even though I know people are behind me," he said. "I ask people a lot of times not to be in my line of vision because all I can see straight ahead is, you know, space."

Often, he said, when he is riding with his usual group near Washington he plugs headphones into his ears and cranks up his iPod, "and it's like I'm alone."

Amen about Scott McClellan he did a great job during a very difficult time and Amen to this "WOLFSTAR's NOTES: (1) Rep. Dan Lungren is a former California Attorney General and candidate for governor. (2) President Bush is going to be 60 in July. (3) GWB's comments about his need to have some time to feel alone underscore something I've come to believe ever since Hurricane Katrina hit last year. I believe the President is understandably experiencing a bit of burnout with the job. Six years of the most ugly, intense, divisive politics, massive terrorist attacks, war and natural disaster will take their toll on anyone, no matter how strong. He needs the support of those of us who are loyal to him more than ever.] "

Bush is so cool!
I'm glad he's able to go bike riding like this. He certainly deserves some alone time. God bless him always!!!
